Getting scared 223. micro conversion

I recently purchased a saiga 223. i was contemplating doing a krink style or a micro galil style conversion while maintaining the 16" barrel so i finally did it pulled the trigger and purchased the parts to do the micro galil conversion this is what im hoping it will look like http://www.redstick-firearms.com/firearms2..._right_side.jpg

we will see im ok with everything but the drilling of the new gas port in the barrel im going to go for it but would greatly appreciate any suggestions anybody has for this process also welding the upper gas tube in place would a standard wire feed be ok or would it overpenetrate
