New Guy with a few questions

Recommended Posts

Hey I am new to the forum and would like to introduce my self. I am new to the saiga 12ga but not to AK's or firearms. I am a regular at ak47.net and just picked up my first saiga today and have some questions.

There does not seem to be a bolt hold open on mine does anyone have a pic and is there any way to retrofit one one it ?

I am having a real problem getting it to feed properly. The bolt will not push the round out of the 5rd mag in to the chamber no matter how hard I pull or push the bolt. I can't even manually cycle the thing do you guys think that is the mag or something that I need to return it for?

Also I have read post about a guy on this board that does PG conversions called Firefly Is he backed-up? Does he fill in the trigger guard holes and refinish. What U.S. parts do I need?

Also where is the best place to get the 8rd mags from?

Thanks in advance for any info and this forum rocks :super: .

Welcome to the forum.

Your questions are talked about a lot on this forum. Little searching will go a long way.

But hear are some hints .... 8 rounders think Rusmilitary.com Frequently sells out. Assassin (member in England) sells them too. I can vouch for him as Mick Porno and RonSwin (other board members) live close by and got a few with an excellent transaction. If you need them ASAP, you might need to offer to a fellow Saiga board member, but be prepared to loose your first born child as we become VERY attached ...

BHO's - You can DIY by cutting a notch in the safety lever, or buy a pre-cut notch that has a nice, easy to activate finger tab built in.

Internal BHO's are available on the newer shotty's. They aren't in the Estore anymore (nothing is?). Takes willingness/know how to put hole's in your rec. Someone did it here about a year back. Here's a link to the install, but not sure who would sell you parts? Maybe EAA?

Firefly's building a nice rep on this board. I'll let actual customers or Firefly speak to the details of his work. There is a pic thread that will give you some good info at the rate of 1000 words per pic.

The following is because you are a new member, so you are paying your dues .... :)

Put the box of 10 ga back in the closet and find the 12 ga box ..... J/K

Hard to tell without being there, but there are grooves cut into the mag for the rims of the shotshells. Make sure you are there. You should be able to manually feed the shell out. This is a mag problem, right? IOW, you could just chamber the shell with out the mag right? Lip's not getting hung on the top of the bbl is it? I've never had a 5 round mag do that but my 8 rounders are prone to do it. Are you able to load the full 5 rounds in?

That's enough for now. You might post a pic showing detail on the top shell/magazine. That might help.

Thanks for the reply I will get the pics of the problem today or tomorrow. I noticed that about the mags having the notches where the lip of the shell locks into place in the mag. When I insert the mag with the bolt closed it will lock into place. When I release the charging handle or bush it foward it get hung up no the back of the shell. Now the only way I can get it to feed is if I pull the bolt backward alittle and push down and foward on the shell while the mag is in the reciever is in the.

Boss- Look at the front of the mag where it has a notch to the reciever. I had one mag (out of 6) that was 'buggered' there. Mine would feed 1 shell, jam the 2nd and throw the mag out! A little file work and it was OK. Note that when mags are in correctly they look like the front is deeper in the reciever than the rear. It sounds like mine was not deep enough, and yours is too deep.
