Gilberts S-12 Tri-Rail foregrip - Dremel Mod for Sling

Recommended Posts

Has anyone tried this with their Gilberts, or do they already accomodate a sling? I don't see how- it looks like the rail goes all the way through. However, if you cut a "track" with a cutting wheel on a dremel, and then hollowed out the middle part (like a router) to follow the same footprint of the factory foregrip's recessed area.

Anyhow- I just bought this friggin grip, reluctantly, only to find out after the fact that apparently it doesn't accomodate slings.. if anyone knows defiitively, and if not, if you've made your own mod, I would love to see.

I don't see why it wouldn't work If you were careful to only take off the minimal amount of material that is necessary. You could probably get away with using a drill press as a mill in this situation to be more precise. I used a sharp wood chisel on the inside at the mounting bolt lug to make a shallow indention in the plastic tri-rail because the lug was preventing the grip from being parallel to the barrel when I looked at it closely. Stuff like that annoys me if I am aware of it. That material is tough no doubt, but somewhat brittle.

Although it kind of defeats the purpose of the bottom rail to some extent. Plus, and there's no turning back once you remove the material. I mounted a forward vert grip in that exact spot, but only after I received my MD drum because the drum interfered with my normal hand placement. If I am not using the drum I will likely remove the fore grip.

So in my case if using the fixed factory sling mount; it would need to be removed to use that area on the rail, and put back on to use the sling.

If I add a sling to mine I will probably go with the ACE mount or something else low profile.
