Disconncter failure?

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Thanks for all the info you all have provided. But I have a question now. Has anyone experienced a Disconnecter failure besides me? It's from the Bullpup stock kit from Centerfire Systems. I've been working on a S12 mod. and things were going fine until today when the disconncter failed while firing 3" magnum slugs. I didn't know if kit parts just don't cut it or if its a one time deal.

Any help here would be aprreciated as always.

Thanks,

Mikel

"How do you mean disconnector failed? What happened?"

Sorry about the lag time, I shoe horses for a living and the warm weather has reminded people that they have them, lol.

The Disconnector broke in two at the pivot point. The top half(hook) wedged under the hammer forcing it higher and jamming the bolt carrier. I had to tap the charging handle forward to release it. I recovered both parts of the Disconnector and inspected the internals for damage finding none noticeible even with a magnifying glass. Thankfully.

I can only assume that the 3" Magnum slug was just too much for it. It was about the 12th such slug I have shot over the last month. The bottom of the Disconnector looked awfully thin when installed, but I had hoped it would work. It didn't, my own fault. I should have done just a bit more research before installing the parts. I looked at the Tapco website(thanks for the update vbrtrmn) and found that their double hook trigger group is not supposed to fit in an S12. With a little work, it does but I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT!!!

I am now looking for a double hook trigger group that best resmebles and fit that of my original S12 t-group. I realize that I will likely have to cut and grind off the actual trigger and to drill a small hole in one side of the hook to work with my Bullpup assembly(I'm hoping).

Any advice would be welcomed.

Thanks again,

Mikel

PS- As for pics, computers are not my fortae, so be patient.

I stand corrected, here is the actual wording from the Tapco website FAQ page.....

"Will the TAPCO double hook trigger groups fit in a Saiga .223?"

"No."

I'm emailing Tapco about the S12 now.

UPDATE:

From TAPCO...."Unfortunately it will not fit in the Saiga 12 either. The trigger groups

don't fit in an of the saigas that are not converted. "

I replied that I am doing a conversion...

"The double hook trigger group will work on the converted saigas. "

Not sure why he might think I was interested in one if I waasn't doing a conversion, but hey....

Asked about getting a replacement Disconnector but haven't heard back yet.

Thanks for the replies guys, it all may have just been a bad part issue.

Mikel
