kevinth1999 3
I am looking to add a quad rail to my Saiga X39. It is purely for cosmetics only. I am not going to convert the gun at this time. I am looking for input from others on your thoughts on what is available, pro's con's why and why not.
shades_of_grey 1,092
Do you live in one of the more Socialist states where you cannot give your rifle a properly positioned pistol grip, US-made AK semi-auto triggergroup, and seperate stock, (even if you're not allowed to install a folder) ? If the answer is no, and you can properly convert restore your rifle, (pretty easy, you don't have to be anywhere near a gunsmith or machinist to do it), if I were you, I'd make that my highest priority, rather than a quad-rail handguard. You gain much more by restoring your rifle than any advantages a quad-rail hg, (cosmetic or otherwise), provides. Just mho. edit: I just read your post more carefully. Sorry, I'm drunkish. Why are you "not going to convert the gun at this time"? Edited November 29, 2009 by post-apocalyptic

I am not going to convert the gun at this time. I am looking for input from others on your thoughts on what is available, pro's con's why and why not. Cosmetics only? Are you going to be putting anything on the rail? Pros: -Allows you to mount stuff (I personally only use VFG's on my rails, but other like to add lights, bipods, lasers, can-openers, etc) -Looks good, depending on your taste -Can help 922r compliance, if it's US made -Makes "purists" cry Cons: -Looks like crap, depending on your taste -Can hurt 922r compliance, if it's not US made -Makes "purists" cry (If you truly mean it's only going to be "cosmetic", as in you're not going to mount anything on the rail..........you might want to invest that money into something you would get more use out of; ammo, possible future conversion parts, mags, etc. That's just my $.02 on that part of your post) There are a few US made polymer rails available and some metal rails available. I don't own any rails for my AK rifles, so I'll let someone else comment on them specifically.
