BruisedShoulder 7
The usual solvents that work great for cleaning pistol and rifle barrels just don't seem to be cutting it for the shotgun barrel. Not sure if its mostly melted plastic on the barrel but also want to clear the gas plug and system. Is there a specific shotgun solvent? What is a good solvent to get out that plastic? Klassy Kalashnikov 1,393
I keep the gas plug, puck, and block nice and dry. That makes cleaning very easy, as I use a dremel with the nylon brush attachment to quickly scrub it damn near spotless. As for the barrel, Break Free CLP on a bore snake does it fine on mine. If yours has some caked up crap in there and it's not coming off, here's what I'd do: Set the gun up nice and firm, either someone hold it or have it in a vice. Then, take a copper 12 gauge cleaning brush and put it on the cleaning rod. Put the cleaning rod into a drill as if it were a drill bit. Now spray CLP all over the inside of the barrel. Push the rod all the way through from the muzzle, til it's past the breech Now turn the drill on, and slowly pull the rod through the barrel That should take care of anything on the barrel walls IMO
BruisedShoulder 7
What about wrapping some stainless steel pad around a smaller brush? Would the SS be too harsh?
ChileRelleno 7,071
I swear by KG's products, KG-1 Carbon Cleaner & KG-12 Copper Remover, I also use the legendary Hoppes #9 and non-chlorinated brake cleaner. I buy Hoppes #9 by the liter (32oz) and use it for soaking parts and bores after shooting corrosive ammo, The brake cleaner is for blasting away residue from cleaning and getting into nooks and crannies. The KG, well, pretty self explanatory. For a heavily fouled barrel, I attach a bronze tornado brush to a rod, chuck into a drill, soak the bore in whatever and proceed to ream it clean... The quickest way to mirror shine.
