Alexc.s. 25
I have chosen to buy a Savage Edge at some point for first bolt rifle. The problem I'm having is what caliber to get it in. I have a saiga 223 and therefor have 223 ammo stocked up. The only other caliber I'd chose is .308, so the real question is this. Do I buy it in .223 and stock up on just one caliber for my center fire rifles, or diversify and buy it in the more expensive/powerful .308? I don't do much hunting and if I did I'd use my 12g with a slug barrel. At this point 223 is cheaper to buy then 308 is, but is diversifying worth the extra ammo cost? boonie0341 2
I would go with the .308. It's nice to have the right tool for any job and it's sounds like your still missing your long range heavy hitter.
L5K 162
I would also opt for .308 and for the same reason. Everyone should have (in my opinion): A handgun A high capacity semi automatic (preferably intermediate caliber) A high powered rifle A shotgun After that just buy any toys you like.
bigj480 203
I'm no .223 hater, but it wouldn't be my first choice for a bolt gun. I would go with the .308. Edited October 4, 2010 by bigj480
jimdigriz 580
Another vote for .308. As Chitlins said, you need a heavy hitter.
Casp 119
I think L5K hit the nail on the head. +1 for getting the .308 Win.
Alexc.s. 25
A point just occurred to me. It's a bolt gun, it fires slowly, I won't be using it nearly as much as the 223. So I use less ammo and don't need to stock quite as much. 308 is sort of a less is more type caliber. 308 it is. Thanks guys.
