grommit666 24
Does anyone know the differences between the various handguard retainers on the market? CSS has one for AK's that looks wrong to me. The way it clamps on doesn't look like it would fit in front of the saiga's gas block. Dinzag has 2 retainers available, one is twice the cost of the other; the Saiga-12 RPK Handguard Retainer is only $28, while the AK Bolt-On Lower Retainer (non-galil) is $55. Is there a real difference? The RPK retainer looks chunkier, but it's hard to say. If it would work, I'd use it. I'm not mounting an RPK handguard, I'm expecting a wood set from ironwood. Can I get the cheaper RPK retainer or do I need to pony up for the AK bolt-on?

YOT 3,743
K-var has a nice one that's "out-of-stock".
grommit666 24
Dinzag has that same k-var piece, but in stock. It's billed as an RPK handguard retainer. Do you know if there's anything special about the RPK handguard or if the retainer would work with any handguard?
dk94044 0
I purchased from Brownell's the Saiga AK retainer ($29 after shipping) to put on Russian MilSurplus wood furniture from Centerfire arms. Very low profile and smooth look, sorry, no pics. The barrel will require some filing modifications or it will not fit, but if you grind down the middle part of the screw, it will cut down the material you have to remove from the barrel, then locktite it in place. The great thing is that requires no removal of the gas block. http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=32501/ttver=1/Product/AK_47_SAIGA_LOWER_HANDGUARD_RETAINER ====================================== sorry I was told that this does not fit the saiga12, only the 7.62 Edited September 15, 2011 by dk94044
