BlueMule 0
I just searched the site and while I can find some stuff on barrel threading, I can't find anything on cutting the barrel down. Anybody got a tutorial cooked up or point me toward some info?
schultze13 354
Are you cutting down a rifle or a shotgun barrel??
BlueMule 0
Shotgun.
schultze13 354
There is a sticky around here somewhere I will look for it for you. The two most common ways are a lathe or a pipe cutter if you use a pipe cutter you must go slow and take small bits as you spin it around or you will leave a bur on the inside of your barrel theses are the two best ways. If you use a hacksaw or a chopsaw it is very hard to get the cut straight.
BlueMule 0
How much would a gunsmith charge?
poptart 3
i used a pipe cutter to start the cut so it would be straight and finished with a hack saw...re-crowned with a golf ball and lapping compound
washburnizer 8
How much would a gunsmith charge? I was recently quoted $75 by a local smith to cut and rethread my S12 barrel.

washburnizer 8
He's set up and alrdeady has the tools. Rethreads shotguns/rifles pretty regularly. I'm sure he's giving me a a discount too. He would probably quote it higher to somebody else, but I've shot with him a few times and have sent him some business before.
washburnizer 8
You could alwasy check with Cadiz gun works. I know they do offer the service. Not sure of the cost. Seem like its around $100. Give them a call if you don't mind sending it to Ohio. They do great work.
