Can I do the paperwork and pay the $200 to convert an AOW shotgun to an SBS shotgun?

 

As long as it's legal in your state, yes.

 

 

Would this require another set of fingerprints, photos, and CLEO signatures since the gun is already registered as an NFA item?

 

Yes.

answered above is good for the majority of cases. but without knowing the

AOW platform, it is not known 100% if SBS-ing is needed. in rare cases

it is possible to have a short barrel and still keep the AOW classification.

most of the time, this applies to single shot AOWs.

I'm inferring that he was referencing adding a buttstock to a pistol-grip shotgun with a short barrel that was already registered as an AOW.

Correct. I originally bought a 590 AOW because it was really cheap. Now I'm thinking I'd like the option of outfitting it with a buttstock.
