Alexc.s. 25 Posted June 30, 2011 Report Share Posted June 30, 2011 Mod the gun and I'd say yes. IT should be noted though that 5.56 out of a short barrel has less power and more muzzle blast. My general rule is, the shorter the barrel the bigger the round should be that gets fired, up to a point. Quote Link to post Share on other sites
IKE 2 Posted June 30, 2011 Report Share Posted June 30, 2011 Makes sense as a larger bullet has more surface area on the back to push on it, and smaller has less so it needs longer time for the pressure to push and keep accelerating it. I built some pneumatic potato cannons back in the day and the larger barreled ones with less barrel length and air chamber actually made more power than the smaller barreled ones with huge air tanks and long barrels. Afrikaner 2 Posted June 30, 2011 Author Report Share Posted June 30, 2011 Oh, I completely agree that .223/5.56 is less effective out of a shorter barrel, due to loss of velocity...BUUUUT...I'm pretty heavily vested in .223 and 5.56 as well as AR15 magazines. I'd hate to have to stock up on new magazines this late in the game. I also prefer .223 because it is a flatter shooting round than 7.62x39... Guess I'll have to order it and find out!
