2barearms 0
Are people selling the mag conversion knowhow or will someone post some details about how to convert the M14 Mags to fit the 308 Saiga. I have a pretty good start on one now but could use a little direction with the follower and receiver fitting. Anybody. TIA
BattleRifleG3 16
There are many different methods used, all with their issues. Making them work without much mods requires modding the trunion instead, a critical part of the gun. Another fellow did a drastic mod to the mag so that it would work in a standard mag well with no mods to the rifle. It looked funky. But it apparently worked somewhat. I've developed a G3 mag conversion that involves major surgery on the receiver bot not to the critical parts of the gun. It requires purchasing an adaptor AND doing work on your own gun, but the result uses mildy modified G3 mags that will still work in a G3, and does not mod any parts that hold back the pressure of the round firing. 2barearms 0
I was hoping Bob G would chime in and give a few details about the M14 mag mods, I am pretty certain that mine will work would be nice to see his though. I don't want to change the receiver in a way that the original mags won't work. I appreciate the info though. I feel that the new importer will solve the availability issue, but a solid 20 M14 mag would be a nice addition in my opinion if it could be reproduced consistently. I'm going to do a Saiga 12 next. There are some threads out there on this site but but I think were they are right now I even had a video of the mag in my rifle. BOB G
2barearms 0
Bob, I got a couple pics from a member here. It confirmed that I was headed in the right direction. The follower seems a little squirelly but it seems to hold the rounds ok. If you find the video let me know. Thanks
lollygagger 1
The M-14 mag conversions that I've seen seemed to be just too damn radical on the amount cut away from the top of the receiver. I mean, there was NOT much LEFT!!! I seems a bit questionable. My take, just mine, is that everything offered thus far requires doing something to the mag and/or weapon that I just don't want to do. So I've just decided to MAKE a complete mag when I get around to it. Seriously, I don't need a bunch of mags for my .308...it is'nt my SHTF weapon -I just want one or two mags for a little extra cap. Not being too dense or unskilled, I plan to make myself a couple out of PVC stock via the usual glue & heat bending. I'use components of other mags to complete them. Sounds like a good approaching winter project. Maybe mother Russia will import one some day -maybe not. Lollygagger
