shootsmuch 9
if i install a Dragonov style butt stock like this http://www.saigastock.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=26&products_id=141 i will be OK as far as Fed compliance because its not a true pistol grip, right? if i install a Tapco t-6 style stock like this http://www.tapco.com/products/saiga/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=159 i will have to change additional items to remain in compliance correct? if i go with the Tapco T-6 what else at minimum will i have to do to get it to be AOK for uncle Sam. shootsmuch 9
I apologize for posting a question that has probably been gone over thousands of times on this forum, but i have researched this and tried using the 922r calculators, which in all honesty have just added to my confusion.... ChileRelleno 7,071
Where do you live? Are you in a State with an Assault Weapon law, where such matters? Also, neither of those are for actual conversion, they do not move the FCG forward. Edited April 8, 2012 by ChileRelleno

If you go with the Saiganov stock as many call it around the forum you would be fine because it is not a pistol grip, and is imported on some Saiga rifles. You can not legally use high cap mags only ten rounders. If you go with the tapco stock you will need to change the hand guard to usa speck, and that should cover you. You'll aslo be able to use high cap mags at that point. At that point you would have a parts count that is like this unless I'm mistaken: 1 stock 1 grip 1 hand guard 3 for a usa (SGM/Surefire) mag 6-922r parts total. 5 of the parts would be replacement and the 1 for the grip would be extra. But it's not just adding parts that matters it's replacement that matters.
pyzik 597
liberty -r- death has it right You will have to use US made mags (if they are over 10 rounds) to stay compliant.

pman 0
The pistol grip was not on the gun when it was imported. If you want to use the tapco t6 stock, you need to replace the handguard and 2 other parts. You could get around that by using only us made magazines, because they count as 3 parts each, and you need a total of 4 replaced parts. Since there was no pistol grip to begin with, adding an american made one just ups the part count instead of replacing a foreign made part.
