neubert500 11
OK, after finding this site Looong ago I got a bad case of gotts to have it now, and as a result, I bought a WONDERFUL Krebs S-12. Talk about being thrilled! Then began the inevitable process of acquiring mags. Got the fever so bad, I am even the proud owner of a MD-20, ( and I want more!). I bragged at work and strutted around with it until two fellow workers now have their own S-12s (forgot to mention that I am a Deputy Sheriff.). I kept hanging out here and reading about the wonderful builds and gazing at the gun porn until I could no longer resist, and began the process of finding a new Saiga 12 to convert myself. (a bit of background, My wife and I have built several semi-auto AKs for ourselves and boy did we miss the aggravation of putting them together.) I started looking for a new S-12 at the worst possible time, during the ban rumor. Finally I contacted RWC and got the word that new S-12s had landed on our shores and alerted my favorite local gun store, He called me last Friday to tell me that my S-12 was in. 30 minutes later so was I. I brought home a beautiful (to me) 2012 Saiga 12, bone stock. Due to a litany of personal issues, I had to set the weapon aside until a few nights ago, when I went to check the MD-20 fit. RED ALERT it would not even enter the receiver. In a growing panic, I grabbed a loaded factory 5 rounder, it would not fit either, nor would my AGP 10 rounders. I had to put it away until a few hours ago when I was able to formulate my plan. I thought I would just cut the mag latch to the same length as my Krebs and the problem would be solved. Ha Ha! Fortunately I got the micrometer out and measured both and found that the new gun's latch was significantly shorter than the Krebs. While I had the micrometer out I found the front sides of the mag well were not parallel and were too tight.OK, I now have plan B. Off to the shop with the new fieldstripped Saiga and several loaded mags. Set the receiver upside down in a carefully padded vice and fire up the dremel and wearing glasses and under bright light, I VERY CAREFULLY began addressing the front sides of the mag well, then test fitted mags until I got them to fit snugly. Now on to the mag latch. Again CAREFULLY I applied the dremel sparingly to the catch and then test fit a mag, over and over until one snapped in!!! HAPPY DANCE!! I made certain that the mag catch was level and left plenty of room to wear in and smiled all the way back to my airconditioned living room. Mags are now totally interchangeable between the Krebs and my Frankenstein to be. After finances build back up, I will be ordering parts to make the new S-12 as close a clone to my go-to AK47 as possible. Anybody got a U.S. made Galil pistol grip that they would like to part with? And no, no pictures, The Krebs has already been shown here long ago and the new Saiga is a box stock one like everybody has seen.

G O B 3,516
If it is bent in, bend it out! They get bent by the monkeys that handle them during shipping.
neubert500 11
Was not bent, just machined incorrectly. Easy fix though, cannot wait until I have time to break it in!
neubert500 11
Finally got to the range today! huge smile on my face. 1st 5 rounds of old crap #6 fed through with the last round FTE. Then cleared right up. Installed the Autoplug and after turning the screw in 1 1/2 turns, it feeds everything I put in the mag!! Cannot wait to convert, but will have to wait on just a little MORE money!
