essohbe 47
Is there any problem with using a gasblock with a porthole that has been drilled 90 degrees then pressing it onto a barrel with a 45 degree gasport in it? I am making an M-10 style rifle with a front sight/gas block combo that is drilled 90 but the 7.62x39 Izzy barrel, to my knowledge (don't have one in front of me), has a 45 degree gas port in it... Should be okay as long as the 45 leads right into the open 90, right?
poolingmyignorance 2,191
The barrel port is angled to funnel debris away from the gas chamber. So long as the two hole line up it won't matter, the gas will expand via path of least resistance.

jamesavery22 54
Yes gas will take the path of least resistance. That doesn't mean gas pressure won't make a path of it's own. http://rifledynamics.com/services/bolton_block.php Yes that's an extreme example(surpressor usage). A 90 degree GB on a barrel that has a 45 degree port means the barrel will have an oval hole with a smaller circle hole ontop of it. No way they'd ever match up perfectly. Small hole over a bigger hole. It should be the other way around. The hole in the GB should be larger than the hole in the barrel. Sure it might work. I'd expect to see the GB show signs of wear that you wouldn't see on a properly matted GB/Barrel. Why bother? http://www.akfiles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=115278 $18... Good point, I should have asked what the sizes were before responding.
