pimpmastak76 21
I have a Saiga 7.62x39 and it needs a new barrel. I am just wondering if a standard AKM replacement barrel that I can buy online will fit it as I am not sure what the diameters of the standard Saiga barrel and trunnion are. mostholycerebus 415
Just curious but, you shot-out a hammer-forged chrome-lined barrel? How many rounds did that take?
pimpmastak76 21
Didn't shoot it out at all. I bought it used from someone a couple years ago and never fired it till just a couple weeks ago. I remember the guy said he only put a couple mags through it. The barrel is all sorts of screwed up. At 25 yards, it is shooting about 1.5-2 feet low and to the right and keyholing. The barrel is warped something awful. I doubt it's able to be saved.
jamesavery22 54
Mullet Man is selling a Saiga 7.62x39 barrel assembly on this forum: http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?/topic/80199-fs-saiga-parts-barrel-handguards-s12-fsb-sling-toolspics/ Looks like you should make sure you have the same trunnion as that one was pressed out of. #3 You won't get a better fit than that... Snatch it up while you can. Assuming you know the in's and out's of headspacing? And dealing with a new barrel pin? Sooo why do you need a new barrel? Looking for a good story. pimpmastak76 21
James, where do I look to find the size # on my trunion and barrel? Mullet Man's barrel might be a good deal if I have a #3 trunnion. I can headspace and fit an oversized barrel pin. The unfortunate story is in post #3. jamesavery22 54
Good question. Was just googling on that! Sure you want to use an oversized pin? Here's a good thread on adjusting headspacing: http://www.akfiles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=75591
pimpmastak76 21
I would definitely use an oversized pin. As small an oversized pin as I can get away with. The powder method just isn't for me.
