poser 0
I am in the process of shortening the gas system 3.75" for an 8" SBS build. When I measure the carrier/piston and mark 3.75" it looks like I'd cut the whole piston off and some of the carrier. Please post a pic and/or describe where you make the cut. Also, what handguards are available for the 8" barrel? All I see is this Tromix. Will it fit a standard Saiga with the block moved back 3.75" ? What else is available off the shelf? yes, I have approved Form 1 and all NFA laws are being followed
Wade Pruetz 103
If you do a little reasearch on this forum and I think in this NFA section Tromix almost does a step by step of how to build an 8" SBS. duh very first thread in this forum! sunnybean 939
Here's where RJF cut mine. Of course, you can see the issues of doing it like this. A small part of the op rod was left in place. This gets beat to shit. It doesn't take long for the threads to start to come apart. Eventually the carrier cracked. I'm glad R&R makes new carriers. After all the hell with this gun I would never do it again. Ymmv. If I were to do another, I would not go that short with the gas system. Tromix sells a short op rod. I would go with one of those and use whatever barrel length they recommend with that short rod.
