  1. I just started my conversion and unfortunetly I have come to a stand still, as I forgot to order the pistol grip nut. However I was thinking, is it necesarry to actually cut the pistol grip hole and order that nut? As an alternative has anyone tried just drilling a hole large enough for the screw to fit through and holding it in place with a lock nut and fender washer inside the receiver? I can't think of why that wouldn't work unless it would interfere with the moving parts inside once reassembly is complete. Also, if cutting that pistol grip hole is necesarry what is the best way to go abo
  2. I understand. I thought it was implied that I'd need to remove the factory handguard?
  3. Yes but do the rails count as a forearm/hand guard? Like I said assuming they do and I replace the hand guard with US made rails I'd be down to 9 foreign parts so its pretty irrelevant I'm just curious nonetheless. Again anyone have any recommendations on which rails I should look at and in which configurations?
  4. So long as the "Trigger Kit" includes the hammer, trigger, and disconnector and then you replace EITHER the forearm/handguard OR the Buttstock with US made parts you're all set (You only need to replace 4 foreign parts with US made parts). So you're doing a folding stock and pistol grip as your two "evil features?" I'm in MA and am also doing a conversion I'm adding the pistol grip and high capacity magazines however I have to make sure they weren't made after 1994. You can only have two "evil features" so if you're not adding a bayo lug, the high cap mag, or the flash hider/suppressor you'r
  5. Seems like a lot of members have chosen to replace their factory stocks with ACE brand stocks. Consequently I was hoping I could get answers to a couple questions. Right now I'm tentatively going with the AKFX Non-Folding Skeleton Stock. Now it seems as if I have a several options. I can choose between a 11.55, 10.55, and 9.55in stock. What are the benefits of a longer or shorter stock? I'm a tall guy would it make sense I should get a longer stock? Also, it seems as if I have options when it comes to the sling mount does anyone have experience with any of their three options? Right now I'
  6. In another post someone was talking about a thread where they outlined and included pictures about how to modify the Saiga to accept traditional AK 30 round magazines. I'm basically wondering where you file down the magazine catch and well. Again I know there is a post outlining all of this somewhere complete with pictures and what not I just can't find it. If someone could link me to that post that'd be great.
  7. My bad that is very true. You have the Hammer, Trigger and Disconnector that comes with the trigger assembly. If all of those are US made you only need one more and the stock is probably the easiest. Now does he want to use the single or double catch trigger? Whats the difference? What are the advantages and disadvantages? PS. I'm going to edit my post up top. I think I mistakenly told him he needs 5 more US made parts instead of 4.
  8. The previous posters were correct. As a Massachusetts resident and having done hours of research on the subject I have found that the Massachusetts Assault weapon ban prohibits the possession and transfer all high capacity feeding devices (ie magazines over 10 rounds) made after 1994. This has several implications for you and I. Number one the easiest way to do a conversion and remain 922r compliant is to include the three magazine parts along with a US made stock. That means you either have to A. Replace 3 more parts on the gun itself and get a foreign made pre-ban magazines, B. Find a US
  9. Anyone know where I could pick up some US made pre ban (1994) 30 rd Ak magazines? I live in MA where its a felony to posses a high capacity magazine made after the federal AWB was enacted. These laws are making my head spin they're so confusing.
  10. Thanks to all who offered advice I finally got it off. Any clue if MA has any additional laws I need to watch out for if I end up doing the conversion? We still have the assault weapon's ban so I obviously have to have two or less "evil" attributes. Other than that anyone have experience with any wacky laws in MA?
  11. Eventually I want to do a conversion so I wanna make sure I can get it off. You're never supposed to clean an AK? Or just very rarely?
  12. I was watching a youtube video and it looked like when when you push down on the button its supposed to kinda go inside the cover. If thats the case mine doesn't go down that far.
  13. I just picked up my Saiga in 7.62 and I'm having a slight issue getting the receiver cover off. I talked to a friend who has an AK and he said its should be a piece of cake. I've watched other people on youtube field strip their AK and it looks so easy and I'm perplexed as to why mine won't come off. I know I'm pushing down hard enough because at times I've attempted to put my as much of my body weight as my thumb would allow into it. I'm reluctant to take any sort of tool to it as I'd rather bring it back if I can't get the thing off. If this has happened to you please let me know or if
