    heavy barrell

It reduces barrel whip, heats up slower and maintains accuracy more consistently in various conditions. The draw back is that it is heavier, may require strengthening of the receiver to support the additional weight and once it heats up it takes longer to cool back down. They make perfect sense for bolt action rifles that aren't meant to take more than one shot to accomplish the task. Has anyone here done any actual accurizing on their Saiga? There were a few posts regarding re-crowning the muzzle and such. What about free floating the barrel or modifying the gas system? Anyone
  2. Answer: None Mine isn't even a full match rifle and it sounds like it will shoot rings around a Saiga. I suppose $350-$400 for a Saiga and all the customizing possibilities makes it attractive. I plan on getting one. Of course, I would never compare it to or expect it to perform like my M1A but, that's because I know the difference.
  3. "You'll see anything from 8 inch "groups" to 2 inch groups depending on what you choose to feed it. A 2 inch group is pretty good from a $350 gun, wheras the $1600 match M1A will only shoot a little better, if at all better." Georgia Arms Lake City Arsenal 150gr reloads through a Springfield M1A (loaded version) with air gauged match barrel, match iron sights and match trigger group gives 1 hole 5 round groups at 50yds and .75" groups at 100yds consistently. With Federal GMM 168gr SMK it drops to .5" groups at 100yds from a bag using iron match sights sights. All for around $1200.00. Ask
  4. Oh and for all of the "Gun Yuppie" doubters and trash talkers: I am going to get someone to come with me to the range and film this sucker in action and go to the trouble to have it hosted so you will keep all of your gunragfanboysniperwannabemythology to yourselves when you see a grown man do his business with a straight shooting rifle What was the distance to target here?
  5. Crazdgunman That's Excellent! I have been looking at all of the conversions here for the past several days and can't wait to get an S308 to start my own. I am looking into doing a conversion very similar to what you have there. I think the mechanical aspect of moving the FCG forward is a real "no brainer". If I can rebuild the drive line and transmission on my bike in less than a week I should be able to finish the trigger part of the conversion in a few evenings. Where is everyone getting the ventilated hand guards? Are you all making them yourselves? I have found all the other parts
  6. Wow! I'm glad I found this forum. There is some really nice work being done here. I am looking for a Saiga 308 to do a "Saiganov" conversion. There are a lot of good examples to follow here. Does anyone know if the Ver 21 is easier to convert to the Choate stock or is that receiver just too different to make it worthwhile? It seems the Ver 21 could save some work on moving the trigger group forward or is this not the right path to follow? Thanks
