  1. As for "Unprepared," read this: http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/ne...t_id=1001051313 In early 2004, as the cost of the conflict in Iraq soared, President Bush proposed spending less than 20 percent of what the Corps said was needed for Lake Pontchartrain, according to a Feb. 16, 2004, article, in New Orleans CityBusiness. On June 8, 2004, Walter Maestri, emergency management chief for Jefferson Parish, Louisiana; told the Times-Picayune: "It appears that the money has been moved in the president's budget to handle homeland security and the war in Iraq, and I suppose that's
  2. "freedom from want? HAH freedom from fear? HAH freedom from persecution? HAH" Those aren't rights.
  3. So Lead, that stang runs on powder Riot???!!! Doods, the fuel supply is what it is and what it always has been. We (world) are consuming beyond our ability to produce. As other economies grow this problem will become more common. reducing EPA standards and using our reserves is stopgap at best. Allowing automakers to circumvent the CAFE standards has put us in a very vulnerable position. You don't know why? Then you didn't listen to the "liberal media" just like all those poor drowned bastards on the coast. Doesn't matter. Just like the Big Easy we've already made our choic
  4. Hi All! I'm all tanned up and rested. It sure is nice to just kick back and be away from the internet for a while. It gives one perspective. You guys prolly think I'm a liberal-ACLU-commie-gun regulator (Hell, I do!) but the "real world" thinks I'm a gun nut anarchist with an arsenal! Heck, they don't know what an "arsenal" is... they haven't met you guys yet! I sure hope Saiga shows back up on these shores soon. We need fresh meat.
  5. My god not just a troll... but a year and a half old troll Ya'll are really getting bored. Go outside, Enjoy the summer.
  6. On so many points we totally disagree, but on this one: "Everything points to our passive willingness to give away our freedom for the sake of being taken care of..." We couldn't agree more. I respect you civilized and thoughtful tone. The nature of our society is that we find just enough common ground to make it work. We'll never agree on everything. It wouldn't be healthy if we did. It seems that we agree that all people should be more active in determining what our future will be. --- I'm off to spend a couple weeks with cool wind and clean water. keep an eye on t
  7. Get what you can now. Bank it. It'll be worth a ton later. Got myself a squeeky-clean AKS-74 kit and a Bulgarian laminated piece of cr*p. I'll wait to build the AKS but I thought I'd build up the Bulgie for the GF for christmas. Do it up nice and pink with "Hello Kitty" stickers all over it. She'll get a kick out of that and I can't wait to see the looks at the range... The girl with the pink AK! Yeh, she's a pretty good GF. No, I won't post pics, well, maybe of the rifle :-)
  8. Tok, Sorry to derail that train... Did you say you are glad we went into Iraq? Why? It furthers our interests? You Do know that the Democratic Government of Soverign and Free Iraq met with the new Iranian PM last week and agreed to a military defense pact informally? Explain how that's good for us. We invaded impotent Iraq that was under our thumb while our 'buddies' Iran and N Korea are (almost) openly building nukes. Think of Iran with Nukes... I know I don't want to. We're so sucked up to Pakistan now that we can't lean on them about thier nukes and the technology they are ped
  9. Wolverine, I wanna give ya a big liberal-pinko hug! We Don't know why we went into Iraq. It wasn't WMD and it wasn't al Quiada. We do not know why we're there and why our brave troops are dieing. And you are absolutely right that, now that we're there, we gotta win. Our honor is on the line. Here is another chance for the determined idealist to face us down and for us to run away. Nothing could be worse for the future of the american people than for our military to seem as impotent. defeat is not an option. So why did we say this week we might start pullouts as early as t
  10. Gosh, I'm not pissed off. Quite the opposite, I enjoy trying to rattle the cages of the complacent. In this world we spend too much time talking to people we agree with rather than trying to find common ground with those that we don't. Sure, your "What 'is' is" argument is mostly correct but it's also misleading. Our "leaders" mostly follow. they follow polls. They respond to public pressure. My presidential vote goes to elect electors appointed by the candidates' parties. They vote for who I tell 'em to vote for. If I doubt it I can go to conventions and vote on electors or choose
  11. But We elect them. If we don't inform ourselves and hold the leadership responsible, cast blame where it belongs, how are we to choose our leaders? It seems that most people vote for friendly personalities and easy answers because they don't want to be troubled by thinking for themselves.
  12. I tried, but I can't resist <sigh> Pistonring, you sig line warns us of having our thoughts taken away. Our most precious freedom is to think, if we want to. In the service you give up a bit of freedom as to what you can think. Outside the service it is our responsibility to think carefully before we choose to send our volunteers into harms way. It is our responsibility in a democracy to be willing to oppose popular opinion to do what we think is right. Would you take that freedom away? I think not! Pearl Harbor was an act of war against our military by the armed forces of
  13. "what is a CUBIC BUCK???" lay a few dollars out in a square. stack on more till you make a cube. it's more fun than it sounds...
  14. I want a new Dodge Charger, but I'll wait for the 425HP one. If I use more than about 200HP I'll get a ticket. So why do I want the big one when a Kia Spectra will do the job???...
  15. ps... happy 2000th post in your reply, Indy!
  16. [from Johnny Dangerously] "It's an 88 magnum. It shoots through schools" I love my 7.62X39s. The "7.62" is all they have in common with the .308. The .308 shoots straighter, harder, further than the X39. It is a bigger, badder, meaner round. The .308 is more fun to shoot, but if you can't afford it, stick to the AK. I'm waiting for the 100 round drum ;-)
  17. I was at the gun show in Fort Worth today and saw a .308 and a .223 at another booth. Didn't buy either. bought an AKS-74 kit instead The .308 is funny somehow. I can't quite figure it out. It acts like the reciever is twisted but it measures square. The bolt binds a little in the last inch of closing. It was both the end of the gas piston being unsquare to the gas block and the bottom of the bolt carrier rubbing on the trunion. The reciever cover is also visably twisted. I just put my new AKS cover and it fits better. So does my Saiga 7.62X39 cover. I guess that's why it
  18. I got one of MGS's .308s a few months ago. It was not new(but in the box) and has a cluster of little problems (twisted cover, misaligned gas tube, bent gas rod...) I wonder where they are getting them.
  19. Thanks to all. New spring is on the way.
  20. I'm finally converting my .308. My 7.62 conversion went so smooth I thought this would be easy. Not that easy yet. Latest issue is the spring that goes in the, um... "little hammer catcher thingie" that pivots with the trigger. The Hole is Way to small for the Saiga spring and under much more tension than my 7.62 is. I got Tapco's G2 kit. Should I drill out the hole or look for a smaller spring. Neither sounds like a great idea as failure could result in run-away NFA non-compliance :-) What have you guys done? SG
  21. Looks like I stepped into a controversy. I heard the old story about Sov AKs in Viet Nam firing US ammo but not the other way round. I didn't think the Sovs made 5.56 until the 80's, let alone in SE Asia. Interesting read, though. I've been thinking Saiga.223. I've got the other rifles and don't want a shotgun.
  22. Is the .223 round used by the Saiga the same as the 5.56 from the east? Anybody know when the Sovsfirst used 5.56? I thought if anybody knew it'd be you guys. Thanks! SG
  23. Why shoot mountain lions? with a cannon, no less?
  24. Wow! That was quick. I need to find someplace better to host it(free). Anybody got room for a 2M video?
