  1. Want to sell European American Armory scope mount for .308 Saiga. Probably fits other Saigas but I can't say for sure. Mounts to side of receiver. $15, I'll pay shipping. DONALDM86@msn.com. Don
  2. I've spoken to the ballistics people at all the majors who sell "light magnum" or other named, more potent than standard ammo, for calibers like the .308. They all say the same thing, the higher powered rounds create excessive bolt velocity and are NOT recommended for semi autos. As a variant of what Battlerifle said, if you can't effectively take the game you're after with standard .308 ammo, you won't be able to take it with the slightly more powerful variants. Don
  3. The gunsmith at EAA told me that either milsurp 7.62x51 or .308 Win were fine in the .308 Saiga. Don
  4. Bvamp, not trying to be bitchy but I wasn't inferring that the SKB was cheap, nothing of the sort in my opinion. I just think the Pelican is an even more rugged item. My SKB has been through the airlines several times with no apparent wear or damage. Don
  5. Tritium gave you excellent advice. Pelicans are top notch gear. I have an SKB that has worked well for me on airline trips though I don't think it is the equal of the Pellican. It is, however, about half the price of a Pelican. Don
  6. The gun does look rather large in her hands but on the other hand, she's approaching as wide as she is tall. Don
  7. Carb cleaner is good for getting stuff out of nooks and crannies where it is hard to reach with anything else. It does clean off all lubricants though so you need to relube. You should wear something like nitrile gloves if you get this stuff on your hands (I always get overspray), it is not good for skin contact. It will probably eat stock finish in a hurry. Don

    Peep Sights

The Mojos are certainly better than the blade rear that comes with the gun but not nearly as good as a sight mounted near your eye on the receiver with a proper aperature. Don

    Peep Sights

Interesting reply, Vulcan. My scope is less bulky (I think) than the Russian scopes. Was thinking a good welder could tack weld an iron sight onto the receiver cover. Don
  10. I know it has been discussed briefly before but where did you get the safety with the tab that allows it to be operated with the trigger finger? Thanks, Don

    Peep Sights

While I wait for a replacement scope, wanted to know if there is a peep sight that mounts on the rear of the receiver cover? I have a Mojo but that is located far forward where the blade sight normally is. Saw one for the receiver cover but they said it wasn't for Saigas. Thanks for any info you might have. Don
  12. Thanks for the help. Now when Simmons sends the new scope, perhaps I can really start seeing how the Saiga shoots outside of "old eyes" range. Don
  13. I'm sure it has been discussed before. What are the recommendations for a typical Saiga style (mates to side rail) that has provisions for using Weaver style scope bases? Thanks, Don.
  14. I've written about difficulties getting my Saiga .308 sighted in with the scope. It was one of the initial run of Simmon's Master Series Pro Hunter. Optics look very clear. I called Simmons today and described the issue. They immediately said the scope was defective, that they had problems with the first runs. They're sending me a UPS call tag and will send me a new scope. Nice, will be interested to see how that goes. Even when you're pretty confident of your shooting, having the weird results I saw starts to shake your faith. Don
  15. The mount is rigid, no discernable movement at all. Don
  16. Well, trying to get my Saiga .308 regulated with the EAA side scope mount was not very successful. Had shimmed the mount with a thin lock washer and was finally able to get it on paper at 25 yds. Got that dialed in. Went to 50 and it required major scope adjustments. Got that dialed in and then tried 100. WAY off again. This is not normal and it isn't my shooting. When I work with my Ruger No. 1 (its a .458 and I'm not recoil shy) once it is on paper, only minor tweaking is required for a good sight in. The EAA mount feels very secure, it doesn't move in any direction with hand pressur
  17. I certainly understand the mag spring concern and the disassembly was what I expected. Thanks, Don.
  18. Tried boresighting my .308. In the stock configuration, it was so high it was incredible. Took my EAA scope mount apart and inserted a washer. Much better, will have to see how it does on the range. Don
  19. What's the routine to remove the bottom of the mag? Don't want to experiment when others obviously have already determined the correct method. Thanks, Don.
  20. Another possibility is the rifle equivalent of "limp wristing." The one and only time my Saiga malfunctioned was a stovepipe that I believe I caused. I was in the sitting position, facing uphill and with more than a normal amount of weight distributed way back from the rifle. Recoil, the hill, and the distribution pushed me back more than normal and it stovepiped. Don
  21. I ordered the TS-70 Moly. They quoted $15 and change for 4oz and 18 and change for 8oz, pretty much a no brainer on that one. Don
  22. Thanks Unknown. I'll order some and give it a try. Don
  23. Unknown Poster. Specifically what kind of moly product do you use on the trigger parts? Thanks, Don.

    Sighting In

Ironhead. Well, looked carefully yesterday and there are no adjustments in the EAA mount. The only option would appear to be for a machinist to "bevel" the lower surface which is, strangely secured with three fasteners of three different types. Oh, well, a "work in progress." Don

Now that I paid attention to it, there does appear to be some crude adjustment capability in the mount. Will have to try it the next time I get a chance. Don
