  1. Zambidis, Looks like a lot of trouble for 2 inches (there's a penis joke in there somewhere). Fuggit. I'll leave it unless I want to go the SBS route. Nailbomb, That's funny about the SGM handguard. I didn't know anyone else liked it that way. It just didn't look right with that little dingleberry hanging off the front, so I took the band saw to it. I have posted pictures at various stages of completion, but this is the first post with it configured like this. What do you guys think of the sling? I stripped the strap and fastex buckles off of an old safariland drop l
  2. So I have my Saiga converted and all the bells and whistles exactly like I like it, but I would like to shorten the barrel to the minimum legal length (without having it classified as an SBS and getting a stamp for it...I live in AZ). I have two questions: 1) How short can you cut the barrel without it being classified as an SBS? (And if you permanently attach the brake, does that count for overall length?) 2) Is there anyone on the forum that does this kind of work (and is in AZ)? I would like to get a ball park on what it would cost to cut it down, get it re-threaded, and the shark
  3. Sorry I've been a little lazy about posting other ammo. I got to the range this morning, and was fortunate enough to have a bunch of Winchester 3" magnum 00 buckshot and a bunch of S&B 2.75" 00 buckshot to use for patterning. For each type of ammo, I fired three shots at a known distance, and measured the resulting group. There is no doubt that some of the spread is due to my marksmanship. Here is a summary and some pictures. S&B ($10.99 for 25): 5yd:4" 10yd:9.5" 15yd:17.5" 25yd:24" Winchester ($8.99 for 15): 5yd:9" 10yd:13" 15yd:18.5" 25yd:24" This has absolu
  4. The traditional approach to regulating gas pressure on a Saiga shotgun consists of turning the gas plug until it covers or uncovers the gas ports that lead from the barrel through the gas block. In my opinion, it is this crude gas regulation, combined with inconsistent gas port patterns that lead to many of the failure-to-eject issues. I think I can solve it, but I want to pose the question to the group to see if I am reinventing the wheel here. Would it be possible and practical to mount a pressure relief valve in the center of the gas plug (facing forward, obviously) and calibrate it t
  5. Saiga-12, converted, Kreb's sights, 19" barrel + shark brake. I took Winchester 12 ga 2 3/4" 00 Buckshot Military OD Green, ammo to the range and patterned it at 5, 10, 15 and 25 yards. From the looks of it, the pattern gets almost unusable between 20 and 25 yards. Slugs were another story. I was able to get them in a 10" group at 50yds, and about 18-24" at 100. Not bad for an un-rifled barrel. Let me know what you think, -MoF
  6. Thanks! That's what I was looking for. I'm forum-search challenged.
  7. Has anyone here put an AK-100 series folding stock on a Saiga 12? If so, could you post some pics and let me know where you picked it up, what your experiences were with installing it and how it holds up? I have a Tapco T6 stock and want to move to a folder. I really like the way the AK-100 series looks like a standard stock, but folds to give you a lower profile for storage and other uses. Thank you, MoF
  8. Just stopped working. I thought it may have been the pressure switch....changed it out for the push button end cap...no dice...looked at the bulb...filament was in pieces inside the bulb (not a very impressive failure scenario). Do you guys think an LED light would actually withstand the pounding? I bought this thing with the expectation that it wouldn't last through a single mag...but I just had to see it for myself.
  9. OK, I had to try it because nobody else on the forum would admit to using this cheap sh!t. But I'm shamelsss, so I mounted a swatforce "deluxe" tactical flashlight under my Saiga 12 (https://www.gandlairsoft.com/catalog/images/Swatforce%20tactical%20Flashlight.jpg)....I figured at 30 bucks, I could buy 6 of them for the price of 1 surefire or streamlight. So, I took it out to the range, and tested it after each 10 round magazine to determine whether it would survive the recoil of 2 3/4" 1 oz 1580fps "sluggers." After 10 magazines and a sore shoulder, the score was Saiga:1, Flashlight:
  10. That's the setup I have. The grip is israeli, and I only had to hog out a little on the pistol grip where the little stud on the DIY fits in, but fits like a glove now.
  11. Looks like it will work. Have you seen these? http://thevestguy.com/category.asp?id=174
  12. +1 on the King Armory gas piston. I went from 100% FTE to <1%.
  13. That looks awesome! Nice job! Let me know how it goes, sighting in your new Kreb's sights. I'm sighting mine in for the first time tomorrow too!
  14. I used these: http://www.fastenal.com/web/products/detail.ex?sku=68077. You can get them at Ace, Home Depot, or Lowes, and they're only a few cents each. No disassembly required to put them in, and I've had mine in for 1000 rounds and they stay put.
