  1. Thanks for all the info. I agree that it's likely a regional thing. As I'm not yet set up for reloading, the surplus ammo is still my best alternative thus far. And I do recycle the steel casings. Around here the domestic brass runs about $1+/rnd. The steel surplus runs about $.25+/rnd. I have a good variety of everything so am not hurting. Maybe next year I can get the reloading started.

    Again thanks.

  2. I use a Condor or Red Rock buttpack for my Get Home Bag that I carry in my truck. Maps, compass, mini SAS survival manual, rain poncho, 3 days E-rats, first aid, hygiene, change of underclothes, 75' 1/4" rope, etc on a belt or shoulder strap.

My BOB is a modified (of course, lol) Red Rock molle pack that opens like a medical pack. Unfortunately I don't see it offered on the website anymore.

  3. So where's all the 7.62x39 Hollow Points? They're not showing up at the local dealers and have been noticeably absent from the last 3-4 gun shows I've been to. I'm not terribly worried as I have a couple hundred rounds, but just starting to wonder if I should invest in one of those jigs for making my own out of FMJs.

Btw, anyone use a hollow point jig?

  4. Nice job and nice stove too.

I'd love to put a box stove in the basement. Doesn't have to be pretty, just hold 6-8hrs worth of wood. I ran a little Jotul in my old place first 4yrs as a supplement to the fuel oil. Last 2yrs the oil went out and the landlord put in propane. The Jotul became primary. It only held 4hrs worth of wood but I didn't sleep much back then anyway. It would keep most of the house at about 58° most of the time and the electric would kick on if it ran low or got too cold. It's how I taught my teenage daughter to wear layers of clothes, lol. Unfortunately, my woman today has an extreme fear of fire. So its an outside furnace or nothing. :-(c

  5. That depends on what's going on and at what point in the scenario. For short term/first stage SHTF, I'll be running my EDC(2nd pic below, add a 4" liner lock blade).

As things progress, I'll eventually run my "Battle Belt"(1st pic) around the house/camp. The Rothco padded molle belt seems bulky but snugs down quite comfy. It's set up to run mostly pistol but have space for a couple of rifle or shotgun mags as well.

The SAW gunners pouch is my gas mask. My AO has a gas pipeline nearby as well as a couple R&R tracks. And my daughters is even worse. Chem spills/fires suck.

I have dump pouches on every tier of my system as I don't train to drop my mags. No longer being Mil/LE, I don't have taxpayer funded resupply so I figure what I got is all I get.

The little pouch is typical GI bandage and first aid. And I have a couple of double strap drop leg panels that quick attach, if needed.

  6. I just picked up a Condor Molle Chest rig for my S12 but I'm using modified triple mag(AR/AK, double mag for S12s), triple pouches on it. The ones with the flaps. It was $25 at out local tac shop. I could run my RPK off it allowing me to carry up to nine 30rnders AND nine 40rnd mags and a drum in the drop pouch. I found you can get a dump pouch and shotshell pouch in between the two triple mag pouches if you slide the mag pouches one slot over, looping the outer molle strap over the quick release attachment strap.

They had one with the mag slots built in for about $35, but I don't know how well the 30s would fit. Pretty snug I would think as I have a double taco mag pouch and the AK 30s fit REAL snug and just a bit tall.

Good luck and let us know what you go with. Love seeing others set ups.

Oh, heres a pic of mine with the S12 mags.
