  1. Yeah, this is an experiment for the most part. I'm going to get a 00 mold and make my own. Can only use so many slugs. This idea has merit IMO but I can't imagine how you could drill a clean hole through a block of rubber, maybe some sort of hard plastic would work but it wouldn't hold the shell like rubber would. A drill saw bit as used for PVC I think would work quite well. However keep in mind I've read rubber stretches when it's being drilled. So assuming a shell has an OD of .800 inches it should work out to about 13/16 bit, then a 3/4 bit might work perfectly if my math
  2. In regard to the "uncrimping hammer" idea, what about buying a cheap rubber mallet from harbor freight or whomever. Take mallet and center drill for od of shell so that it's snug enough that friction alone will hold in the shell. Then use something like a roasting pan, with tall sides to bang the hammer into. That way shot collects into the pan, and the shell removal process would be quick.
  3. I have see it mentioned in the gun wiki, to put a nut, or washer behind the trigger return spring. I initially did this, however even with the smallest one I could find it caused some binding on the transfer bar. I personally don't recommend you do this as the binding may bend the bar over time. I went without it, and the spring stays in place fine, captured by the plastic rib that was intended for that purpose.
  4. Rail is an ultimak, I got from Atlantic Firearms. http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/storeproduct397.aspx It requires removing rear sight by drifting it out, then a replacement piece is drifted in that has a threaded hole in it. The front screw turned out to be a huge ordeal. A hole has to be drilled in the front gas block in the raised section, then threaded. When I went to drill the hole on my press the bit bent and chattered off to the side. So in my infinite wisdom, I decided to fill the hole with weld. What I didn't know was the weld metal itself was then too hard to drill and thread. So I
  5. Not sure why, but I couldn't post this in the product review section. Almost finished just need a mini monster brake and it will be done. PK-23 on ultimak rail btw.
  6. Be sure to read that gun wiki before you install your stock. Some very good advice there.
  7. I also got mine today, and as you can see from my join date it's pre-Bjorn. Hopefully over the weekend I can do a build pictorial, and give some initial impressions, but that's all conditional upon the damn railroad giving me some time. Lol Red rum, where's your shop at? I need some more work done, want to get my sleeves finished. Looks like someone beat me to it. http://gunwiki.net/Gunwiki/ProcInstallKushnapupSaiga
  8. Good point BRG3, I just love that round though. Mags would also be a problem as they arent cheap. I guess my ideal then would be .308 with the ability to use the HK mags, since they are readily available.
  9. Rebel, its not "what can I get away with", its "how many of my rights do I still have". I didnt think a thumbhole stock was considered a pistol grip. I could be wrong though. Best thing to do is leave NY and move to a non-communist state.
  10. Excuse me, do you know me? Do you know what kind of maintaince I perform on my weapons? If the answer is no, then dont tell me Im too lazy to clean my rifle properly. I think most people here clean thier rifles to a greater degree than the average soldier because we have better tools and more time to do it (sad fact). As far as being in a SHTF situation or combat environment, no I havent been. I also would not want a rifle that cant perform at the range, let alone such a situation. I have alot of respect for Tony, but I also dont roll over and show my belly just because someone says so
  11. It was a DPMS brand new from factory, because thats where I sent it to be fixed. I am sure the problems I had arent representative of all ARs, or all DPMS rifles for that matter, but I have heard other various complaints. To me thats the sign of a flawed design, and at the price they charge I am not rolling the dice again to hope I get a good one. For my money Ill stick with the proven design, even if my groups do open up a little, a chest shot is a chest shot, your still just as dead.
  12. It does have me intrigued to see the operating system, would be nice if its in .308 and you can use M-14 mags or PSL mags if in 54R. Thats usually the downfall of new designs, not being able to get mags easily, or at a decent price.

Just goes to show how some of these accessory companies are ripping you off with thier $100+ Uber-Tactical LEDs they sell. I bought a Led like that and use it all the time, although not mounted and it works great. I think I paid $30 for mine, has 5 white and one red LED, very nicely made with an aluminum housing.
  14. If as you say its going to be sub MOA I would like to see it in 7.62X54R, or maybe .308. Plenty of cheap surplus ammo for both, in a caliber that is good for defense/hunting. There are enough poodle shooter chambered rifles around, I would do it in something with some nuts that is readily available. So for me no .17 , .223, or exotics like the .458, just my two cents.
  15. There already is a very accurate AK, its called a PSL. Not trying to bash Tony, experimentation is the only way to achieve better products. However the one AR I had was accurate but finiky. It wouldnt shoot Wolf, and at first wouldnt fire more than one round at a time (extractor spring installed upside down). I sold it and bought an Arsenal SAM-5, it will eat anything and is capable of better accuracy than I am. BTW I was at Inter-Ordnance the other day (bought a Mosin PU sniper) and they showed me a sample of a rifle they should be importing in November. It was a .308 PSL with a new polymer f
