I was just talking to my neighbor, when 4 F-15's flew over head out of Nellis AFB. He looked up and said "I hate that noise." Then I said, " I love it because that's the sound of freedom."

I live near an impact area and it warms my heart to hear the artillery pounding away

Amen, the sound of good men defending freedom is a sweet sweet sound.

Until last month I lived right on the western boundary of Elmendorf AFB/Ft. Richardson Combined base. There's nothing like the sound of automatic weapons fire with your morning coffee and F-22s and most of the rest of the AF's inventory coming and going all day. Gotta admit, though, that helicopters do annoy me. Noisy and fast is one thing, noisy and slow is another.
