  1. Just breezed by rusmilitary and found that the 8 round non-magwell 12 gauge mags are back in stock. I have had no problems receiving these so far, and though they are pricey, its nice to have a few around while waiting for alternatives. Just a heads up for you guys hankering for the real deal.
  2. Just for everyone's amusement, I milled out the Bulgarian dust cover and it is just short enough to pop out during shooting. Not so much fun. However, the side mount rail that I have my red dot on will hold the dust cover in place if the right size piece of cork is wedged between the bottom of the mount and the dust cover. A wine cork works fine, split about 60/40 along the long axis. Just wedge the thicker half in as the mount is slid on, and this works well enough, though is not very elegant. I have still had no success in finding a real dust cover anywhere, so for those of you who want to t
  3. Received the cheek rest last week and am satisfied with the fit and adjustability. However, after one day shooting skeet (about 225 rounds) the "padded" area is marred and damaged. This didn't look so robust to begin with, but apparently even a small amount of impact with either the earpiece of my shooting glasses or the edge of the hearing protector tore this up. This aspect of the part is not as robust as I would have expected for the price.
  4. one in the chamber and 8 round Izzy mag with bolt closed and safety on. Federal tactical 00 and have never had a problem with deformation to the degree that it prevents chambering of the top round. My rule is if I have to pick it up, the safety comes off.
  5. Shiny! I like it. But, how many Saiga owners have really had any problems with buckshot being deformed to such a degree that it is not loading? I have been loading federal tactical OO and even after sitting for several months without shooting, I have had no problem with the second round loading, which would be the most likely to be flattened out by long periods pressed against a closed bolt.
  6. Thanks, I'll try them. Meanwhile, taking some metal out of a Bulgarian dust cover. Needs a little change of the radius at the gas tube end, but no reason to think it won't work. We'll see.
  7. Nope, that would work perfectly fine. Just cut a bigger hole in an AK dust cover. Excellent. Thank you.
  8. 5000? Yes! That's my kind of shotgun.
  9. I love a clean gun, but hate to do the work. The development of the bore snake has been a tremendous help to a neglectful shooter like me. I have to admit I just can't work up the motivation to clean after every trip to the range, as my dad used to teach. So partly intentional and partly through laziness, I offer you one estimate of how long the Saiga will work without cleaning the the gas tube, which is where the problems will likely be and the worst area to clean, in general. I don't have any other shotguns, but expect that the Saiga is among the easiest to clean because of the simple me
  10. These seem to be impossible to obtain, or at least I have had no success. My skeet instructor thinks he could just mill out a larger opening from a standard ak cover. Seems reasonable. Does anyone know why that wouldn't work?
  11. I have had no problems with two shipments from Oleg and one from New Zealand which has supplied me with enough 8 round Russians that I don't need to look further. At least 1000 rounds have gone through them without issues. Given the expense that people put into their Saiga's it seems like false economy to not have a 8 round Russian or two for absolute reliability and capacity. Perhaps there will be an alternative someday, but wouldn't you rather have the security of a proven mil spec item now, instead of a vague hope for vaporware sometime in the future?
  12. I have a Tromix converted Saiga 12 and would like to use the side mount with a red dot for skeet. The rear sight mount is just high enough to interfere with a side mount, and so would like to buy a plain receiver cover for the shotgun. So far, no luck with the parts resources, so if any of you have a suggestion or an extra cover, please let me know.
