  1. You do have a point in that statement. Only if you want to make your saiga look like an actual ak or converted to 922r compliance is it deemed to be a valid question. As far as sizes, if you don't have the tools to measure, how do you plan on making a part to fit. Try having the person whom will actually make the part get sizes, there is only 4 sizes you actually need if your going to weld it in place, which isn't a good idea IMO anyhow.
  2. There is also a liability thing to consider about giving info about modifying a weapon. If you have access to a machine shop and are able to make a guide yourself you should be able to determine the sizes needed,I did for mine and haven't had any loading problems. It's like converting, you can do it yourself or pay to have it done and money isn't always part of the concern. It took a little time and a few adjustments, but it was fun working on my own weapon. Same as mounting my muzzle brake,I didn't thread my barrel to mount mine.
  3. That's why I asked for someone who would know. I'm not looking for guesses or assumptions. I have learned since this post that there is a sleeve I need to remove first. What is the OD after removing that sleeve? When I removed my sleeve, my barrel end measured .550" in diameter and it was approx. 7/8" long. 14mm is .551". I didn't thread mine, I bored my muzzle break out and made it a press fit so actual size didn't matter on mine.
  4. Wow, someone finally posted a Saiga as is on the Saiga forum. To bad it won't stay that way long. A stock Saiga must not be good enough for most on the Saiga forum?
  5. If you have a 16" barrel you can not legally cut the barrel down. Welding the gouge is probably the best /cheapest, but it is possible to warp the barrel if you have a lot of welding on one side/section only. Maybe you should have it checked by a good gunsmith if you think it's that bad!
  6. It doesnt matter if your bullet guide is made in the US or not. A bullet guide is not a "countable" part. If you are not clear on what parts are the countable parts you might want to check back up on 922r before you take your rifle to a range or use it in self defense if it comes to that. I'm not trying to be 922r compliant, just asked if a part would be counted as being USA made or does it have to be bought or made by a specific business. I thought if a part wasn't on the gun originally it wouldn't count toward compliance any how.
  7. I made my own bullet guide. Since I live in the USA does it count for the 922 parts count? Do I have to stamp it made in the USA?

    Moving FSB

Your sight radius would be improved if you left the front sight block alone, and mounted a sight on the dust cover. As you describe it, you're really not gaining anything. I was thinking of just sliding the FSB back to the front of the gas block, so I would gain about 2-1/2" to 3 inches depending on where I mount the rear sight. Probably not worth the trouble, but it would help me with my getting a better sight picture with the rear sight moved back, but then new bifocals may help too. Plus I do like the look better, just my opinion.

    Moving FSB

Thanks for the answer. I've got the A1 sight mod saved, but I haven't seen the other 2. I did a search and didn't get much. My FSB is pinned in place so it should be easier to get off then the dimpled style and it looks like it's already threaded under the shroud so all I would have to do is fill in for the 2 pins slots/holes and repaint and decide on a muzzle break or flash suppressor. Sure wish I had a tig welder.
  10. Has any one moved the FSB back to the gas block and then moved/replaced the rear sight to the receiver cover. You'll gain a little more sight radius which should help and for me it would get the sights closer to my weak eyes and help my sight picture. I'm thinking about the ar sight adapted to the cover. I think it looks good or I might try to make a mounting plate for the stock rear sight.
  11. 145mm spread = 5.70" I'm assuming that's at 100 yards / meters isn't great shooting, but it still equals a hit on a human or deer size target with military ammo and that's what it was made for I thought. It's a shorter barreled rifle with short sight radius. With better sights and better loads you should be able to cut that down quite a bit I would think. But then again if your putting a 20 or 30 round magazine in and letting it rip, accuracy isn't what your probably looking for.
  12. Couldn't vote, don't care for the retro look and I'm not into the tactical thing. A stock Saiga isn't bad as is,IMO. Maybe a smaller fore grip and 15/20 round mag's and better sights. If it's not broke, I can't see trying to fix it.
  13. Being an older fart and not looking to get into long term firefights I'm not concerned about 922r compliance. I want a reliable, light weight semi auto that puts a dependable round down range in quick order if needed. I don't need the extra bells and whistles. I'm not overly concerned if my 15/20 rounds mags are "legal". If it comes to the point I'm carrying my saiga around with illegal mags, then things are already out of control. Wood looks great, but requires more care, is a little heavier and not needed IMO, I'd rather carry an extra mag than extra weight on my gun. I guess I'm more of a "
