This test was with ar 15's, so to me it's not comparing apples to apples. IMO, a useless test.
  2. With enough paper work and money you can do just about anything. I haven't checked into a class 3 manufactures license, but,IMO, It would probably be faster and easier to just buy a legal full auto AK, if you can find one and afford it. I think it may be more than just filling out a few papers and sending in a check though. And yes I did have a full auto AR back about 35 years ago, the fun lasted about two outing, I couldn't afford to shoot it even back then, but unlike what some may say a 3 shoot burst AK would be more to my liking and could be had / made! I was just trying to make a poin
  3. If it's not broke why try to fix it. You don't have to convert it to be able to use 20 round or bigger mags, but you will have to change some parts if you want a pistol grip. You can't convert it to 3 shot burst / full auto legally so you can't really make it like an original AK any how. That would be the only way I would convert mine at least.
  4. How fast and how often do you shoot at a high rate of fire that a muzzle brake would really make that much difference! It's not like the recoil is not controlable on a 7.62X39 any how. I will admit a muzzle break can enhance the look, but the extra report you hear from one isn't worth the look or control factor to me.
  5. Wouldn't it be easier to just make a spacer to put in front of the front sight? That way your not messing up the barrel and taking a chance of goofing up the sight. A lot less work too and removable.
  6. Modified butt stock and modified stock fore grip. Relocated front sight and changed rear sight. Sight radius is approx. 7" longer than stock. Made my own alum. bracket to hold front grip, very secure. Butt stock is approx. 12-1/2" with an additional 1" of drop for better sighting to me. Had a muzzle brake but made the report to loud so I removed it. It is used as a sd/battle rifle and does not drive tacks. To each their own.
  7. I wonder how long before the Saiga forum becomes a pay per view forum?
  8. Another big plus is you get to spend more money on the hopes you can add more stuff to your weapon, which some say is already to heavy, you can add a light so you can be more stealth, an optic sight for better short range defensive shooting, a bipod you probably won't even use and then there is the muzzle brake(not mounted on the fore grip though) so you can control muzzle climb and recoil on your semi auto, mild recoil rifle that will increase the sound of the muzzle blast that you will hear. But it will look tactical as all get out.

  10. There you go, using common sense, logic and being practical again. Practical? Hardly. It would almost certainly have to be a TEOTAWKI situation for civilians to have to use their rifle defensively in the prone position. The more likely scenario is dealing with home invaders, which will require standing and movement. That said, again, I have no difficulty going prone with a 30 round mag. I completely understand, that 10 extra rounds in a mag is all that's needed to go prone, but if you only have 20 rounds you have to stand up. Sounds like something a politician would say, comp

  12. At least 1/3 rd of the modified saiga's pictured here are AR style wanna be look alikes.
  13. It looks good and will probable work as intended, I'm just not sure I want to mount some thing that far forward. Ak's / Saiga's tend to be muzzle heavy as is, then put a rail and a sight device and it compounds that. When you get the rail that fits over the receiver cover then I check them out.
  14. Yes, the ATF considers any direct attempt to lessen the noise even by 1 decibel as NFA territory requiring a tax stamp. A longer barrel will not only keep the blast farther away from your ears but will also absorb more expanding gases and reduce the overall muzzle blast. This is the only method that is free from legal implications. As a reference example of this method. www. metrogun .com Question: Is Metro Gun legal? Answer: Yes, the US Government agency, USDA, uses the Metro Gun System for nuisance pest-control as do several other agencies. This gun system has been cleared
  15. I don't think you can suppress the report without putting a suppressor on, at least by ATF rules. The best you could probably do would be to get a longer barrel which wouldn't suppress the report ,just put it farther from your ears, thus make the report you actually hear less.
  16. I'll agree to a point about wearing ear protection, but in a real situation are you grabbing ear protection first, I think not. I make it a point to shoot some rounds without ear protection, just to keep myself aware of what it's like in actual shooting. You won't always have ear protection and shooting glasses on. I can't imagine how loud my saiga would be in a some what enclosed area would be!
  17. That is exactly why I took my brake off. The only reason I put it on was for looks, muzzle rise isn't that bad to begin with, but the brake sure made a big difference in the report you hear when shooting.
  18. I put mine on with just a press fit and loctite. Some say the pressure from shooting will make it come off, but a proper press fit will hold much better then they think. I did take it off (it made shooting to it loud) and muzzle climb is not that big a problem with the 7.62, but I had to cut it off, it was to tight to drive off with a hammer and a bronze block.
  19. To each their own, retards included. Not an actual snipers gun,it's only a 7.62x39 but it suit's my purposes. The butt stock is now 3/16" longer than a stock Saiga's. Works fine left or right handed. Not sure about sights/scope yet. Current sight radius is 4"longer than stock Saiga.
  20. Try to find some one in your area that has a converted Sagia or an actual AK and shoot and handle that first if your not sure. You can always go back to stock set up after if your not happy with it converted, but then you have all those parts and won't get but pennies on the dollar if you don't use them. The tools needed to convert are tools you can use for many other things at home, so even if you buy the tools needed, it is money well spent. If you can't shoot good enough with a stock Saiga to do what it was designed for, I would say your wasting time and money converting. Just buy som
  21. You have to restore it or you will never be happy, your stock Saiga is not what you thought it would be. The trigger is so bad you couldn't hit the side of a barn if you were inside the barn. Make it into something you didn't buy, make it an AK, just don't tell anyone you bought a Saiga. scarsam off. It's your gun, enjoy it and make it what you want, not what unknown people on a forum think you should have. Some of us whom don't know anything about guns like Saiga's / sport AK's and can even hit a target at 100 yards with a stock trigger,10 round magazines and no pistol grip.
  22. Looking for either wood or synthetic Dragunov butt stock that fits a Saiga 7.63. Found one at a place in NZ, but seemed a little pricey. If wood it would have to be lefthanded or able to be modified to lefthanded.
  23. +1000% imarangemaster. What you said applies to several other posters on this forum. Their opinion seems to be the word of God around here. I'll admit I'm new to ak's and Sagia's but I really find it insulting to come on a Sagia forum and bad mouth there products and other manufacture's products on what appears to be little less than personal opinion or a bad experience. For me personally, I like my relatively stock Saiga. If I had wanted an AK,I would have bought one, but I don't care for that look. I do like the look of some AR's, but again, that's not what I bought, so I'm not trying to mak
  24. Factory hand grip, cut to 7-1/4" long.
  25. The stock barrel on a 7.62X39 saiga is only .551" in diameter. You would have to put a sleeve on the barrel to increase the diameter and then the sleeve would be to thin to safely thread. But you could shrink a sleeve on the barrel and then just cut the threads out of the ar10 break and just use a press fit to hold it in place. I haven't shot that many rounds thru mine since I put my muzzle brake on with a press fit, and I can't see muzzle blast pushing off a break with a good press fit.
