  1. Its not bad...I bought my kit from accessory arms. Came with the tap. I'd recommend buying or borrowing a good center punch to make your initial mark and a cobalt bit - i'm not sure I could have done it without the cobalt bit. I bought my bit at sears, went through the metal with ease. I was really surprised how well it worked. You want a really good mark for the drill bit to hit at the beginning. I put the bullet guide in place where I wanted it then made my mark with the punch in through the hole in the bullet guide. It might sound complicated, but once you start, it's pretty obvious w
  2. I had that happen with mine - I remember being pissed because I drilled the tap hole for the bullet guide dead on perfect without a drill press. Thought people were crazy for needing one of those to drill the hole. Ten minutes later I screwed up buttstock. I drilled the hole a little too close to the metal and the screw wouldn't go in all the way and tighten it down. It was the screw that the spring mechanism fits over. My screw was originally so high the spring would fit back into those two tabs because the screw head was in the way. I bought a smaller screw (think I bought a star ti
  3. I like to go to a gun show before I buy something to get an idea of real world pricing. I really don't understand pricing on the any stuff. Go into a Gander Mountain and the used guns cost as much as the new ones elsewhere. I really don't like the idea of buying anything online and dealing with sending it to an FFL. I guess I have trust issues.
  4. Mine trigger stick/lock up when the springs did this. It would act like it was always in the "pulled" position. I'd check that, 30 second fix.
  5. I just installed a saw grip, my kit came with a another nut and bolt in a seperate package than the grip (both Tapco). I just used the nut (from Tapco) and the screw that was in the saw grip. http://www.accessoryarms.com/ccstore/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=54 The bag in the top middle of that pic
  6. I do pretty much the same. I just put some oil (couple drops) on a cloth and wipe the piston. More oil is in the cleaning patch than on the piston. The cheap russian ammo I have really burns dirty and I can see how it could easily leave deposits in there.
  7. Kinda thinking the same thing. Just going to get a couple mags next show I go to. Sit down one day and file them down. Didn't take long. Rather risk screwing up something $12 that I just throw out and start over. Don't wanna risk screwing up the release.
  8. It does thanks...I was thinking about doing that. I was following the instructions that came with it bullet guide, when things didn't work as stated, kinda freaked out. It didn't say anything about filing that down, but it has to happen. After looking around, I see that I'm not alone. Thanks for the quick reply...just got done putting everything back together. Hopefully give a try today.
  9. Hi, I just installed the bullet guide and something isn't right. The Saiga clips still worked, and the standard mag I had still doesn't fit. I ended up grinding the magazine down to get it to fit. The issue was the tab on the magazine that fits in where the release is was just too thick. There was no way for the magazine to fit in with or without the bullet guide installed. When trying to click the magazine into place (the part where you rock the magazine into the release mechanism), it would just run out of room and the release would never disengage. Any ideas? Maybe I installed
  10. Hi from Ohio I've been reading the forums and watching videos trying to figure out how to do a conversion. I bought a 7.62 a few months ago (haven't even shot it yet) and was getting ready to do the conversion. I'm not very mechanically inclined but I feel pretty confident in my ability to handle a basic conversion. I read in places where people weld something or custom fabricate something else...I can't do that. I have a Dremel and am willing to purchase stuff I don't have (punch tools, etc). I apologize if this information is repeated someplace else, I just don't don't want my $150/
  11. I live in northern Ohio and recently purchased a 7.62 version of it in March. I have been looking for a deal on them up here since about Dec. I've been to about 3 gun shows while I was looking and never saw .223 for sale. I've seen 1 308, a few 12, and a few 7.62. I too was considering the .223, but never even saw one for sale. I gave up on looking for a good deal too. They were all about 350 +- $20. Even at shows there would only be like one guy selling them new. I bought mine (at a gun show) Best Firearms in Painesville ohio, (440) 354-4867‎ – (800) 480-4867‎. You can google it for
