  1. I brought mine at a gun show, its a U shape piece of metal with a hole in one arm and a threaded rod in the other which you wind in to push the front sight right or left, it also has a slot in one end of the threaded rod which you put over the front post to adjust up or down (a rough decription only) All testing was done with 3 shots to estabilish groups.
  2. AK POS cant hit the broad side of a barn!! We hear this all the time and there may be some truth in this statement as I found out. The new AK/Saiga owner buys the rifle, rushes to the range and stuggles to hit the target at 100yds, gets grumpy and bad mouths the AK then sells it moaning to all who will listen. What he dosent do is to BUY a sight adjustment tool. I just brought 4 new Saigas (2 in 7.62x39 & 2 in .223 with 16" barrels) all 02-06 manufacture and one SKS 16" barrel, went to the range to sight them in. Every one with the rear sight setting at the lowest position at 25 yds
  3. I have the standard 8/10 round poly mag that comes with the hunting stock Saiga which has been reduced to 5 rounds. I've cut the follower to the same size as the Tapco one and cut off the floor plate upstand which has increased the mag to 8 rounds. The next step is to cut back the spring which is 12" long with 13 loops in it, I cut off 3 loops of the spring which now gives me 9 rounds, question, should I cut it back to 8 loops ( the chinese 10 round mag, same size but in steel has only 8 loops) anybody done this? and will it still work ok?
  4. Guys I just need a bit of help as I posted in the Tech Section last week and no reply, Ive moved on and am thinking of cutting 2 loops of the mag spring to get 10 rounds is this ok? thanks
  5. Ive cut down the follower & still only 8 rounds, should I cut 2 loops of the spring?? anyone?
  6. Hi guys, I have a standard 7.62x39 Saiga poly 8/10? round mag which has been factory reudced to 5 rounds, I wish to return to 8/10 rounds. I've pulled it appart and it has the following : 12" long spring, is this too long? Floor plate with a 1 1/2" upstand inside the spring, does it need this upstand? A follower which has long sides measuring, 1 5/8" front & 1 7/8" back, I'm thinking cutting 3/4" to 1" off this, would that be ok? as I found a Tapco follower with sides 3/4" front & 7/8" back, is that the size to cut for reliability? ( the Tapco doesnt quite fit up inside the Saiga m
  7. Nailer, does it really work that well?? I'd like to get one but I cant think how it will work with the peep sight that far foward as I'm used to the standard AR ghost ring halo close to your eye.
  8. Falcom66, welcome I live down under in New Zealand on a 40 acre farm 40 minutes from the biggest city Auckland, I have a couple of Saigas in .223 and a couple in 7.62x39 all 16" barrels, anyway welcome again.
  9. Homefront. the Saiga 16" in .223 will shot as good as any standard M4 out of the box, I have them in .223 and 7.62x39 and the .223 one is my poor mans M4 but much, much more reliable and I can shoot cheap Wolf ammo when I want to play. Slap a red dot on it and enjoy.
  10. All of the above except for Kevin WTF!!! I dont know what he's on, I have both, the Saiga is a AKM with a sporter stock made in the same factory on the same machines as all AK's, its lighter, simple to strip and good enough for minute of man out to 300yds I love shooting it however I still love my SKS and wouldn't part with it. Buy the Saiga you wont regret it but its better to have both.
  11. yup as the 5.56 dries up (seen nothing military for a long long time now) I switch to the 7.62x39 Wolf, Norinco whatever I can get, mind I dont help myself when I go out and play with 300 rounds at a time.
  12. Its a sickness I tell you a sickness, I ended up with three 7.62x39 and two .223 and now I catch myself thinking of getting a couple of 308's
  13. Patriot, WTF? I thought I made it clear in my first post that the poor mans urban sniper could be used if you found yourself in a urban enviroment during a zombie or martian invasion of your city therebuy protecting life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
  14. Bravo 26, thats good shooting with the SKS, it backs up all I've read about them being used in the Bosian wars for urban sniping therefore a good well built 20" AK should perform equally as well out to 300yds. Streetfrog that looks like a good cost effective scope do you use it on a 7.62x39 and how's it holding up to semi-auto fire.
  15. Vladimir are you talking 7.62x39 ammo or the rifle? Down here in NZ the 7.62x39 boys have had good results using hand loads from a stock bolt action CZ 527 with many one hole touching 3 shot groups at 100yds, yes I know it was a bolt action but I use this example to show what you can do with the ammo, hand load or find the best comerical load to suit your rifle. Sopmod I believe the Vepr is based on the RPK and that Robinson Arms posted good accuarcy results of a 20" Vepr on there website in 7.62x39. Yes I know that a 308 is a bloody sight better for a sniper rifle BUT this is a poor man
  16. No the maximum effective range of the 7.62x39 is 400yds example if you sight in at 0" for 25yds, at 100yds its +3.27", at 200yds its +0.02" & at 250yds its -5.52"
  17. I've been thinking about a poor mans 7.62x39 AK type urban sniper for some time now. Please guys YES the 7.62 NATO and lots of others are MUCH BETTER for sniping than the 7.62x39 BUT this is not for 600-1000yd shots this is urban sniping say 300yds. Why the 7.62x39? it is CHEAP, you can shoot all day long with wolf for practice and have some special ammo put aside so as to not brake the bank. It is also heavy enough to punch through stuff at 200yds as well as you can head shoot say 8" at 150yds and body shoot 300-400yds maximum effective range for those zombie or martian invaders. The
  18. Happy new year guys, I hope its a gun filled one, hahahahaha I'm about to buy a new S-308 16" one and my question is, should I buy one with or without a typical russian type muzzel brake? does it help with recoil or is it just extra noise and it wont make any difference for normal shooting with the standard mags? What do you guys use? thanks kiwi
  19. Thanks jdremount thats a damm good idea and thanks for the photo as it says it all, I'll do that mod as I start to modify my saigas kiwi
  20. BVAMP, I checked the SAIGA's at the weekend, the wood stock .223 is 03 (2003?) even though its a new one, just was old stock in the shop I guess. the plastic stock .223 is 06 and the 7.62x39 is 07. Thanks for that bvamp as I didn't know where to look. Now guys question about mags?? I pulled the 7.62x39 5 shot plastic mag appart, man what a long spring it had also a very long follower, I guess I could cut back the follower as well as a couple spring loops? so it could hold 7 - 10 rounds???, I'll check the .223 mags next as they now hold 7 rounds only. Any thoughts or dimensions on how
  21. Well guys I saved up the cash to buy a new mini 14, went to the gunshop and just couldn't do it so I came home with 3 new Saigas instead, all had 16" barrels, two in .223 and one in 7.62x39, all stock standard (no pistol grip) except the 7.62x39 had a break fitted, all for 150 bucks more than the mini 14. I brought two .223's as one has a black plastic stock and one has a wood stock, all of them have the hunting type stock and came with three 7-10 round mags each. How do they shoot? I dont know yet so I went out and brought some Wolf .223 55 & 62 grain ammo also some HSM 55g police
  22. Trust me on this the Zombie wont mind!!!!!! get yourself a couple of coconuts and try the FMJ and SP on them I'm sure they will explode.
  23. MADMILO, dont sugar coat it, tell us how you really feel.
  24. madmilo, great report thanks, is your S-223 a 16" barrel? with standard sights?, and what mods have you done to it? the reason I ask is that I've been looking at a mini-14 but for low cost shooting it will be Wolf Ammo down here in New Zealand and I just wonder how the mini-14 will hold up for hard work with Wolf Ammo hence my intrest in the S-223 as a good fun hard working SHTF gun with the same accuarcy as the mini-14.
  25. Silly question guys but I dont have a Saiga YET!! so I dont know, if I fit buy a Saiga in .223 or 7.62x39 and fit a bulllet guide, one of Dinzag or whatever to feed the standard AK mags, can I still use the standard Saiga mags for shooting??
