I'm in the same boat as you (looking for an optic). But I've painted a couple scopes before. I cut out a piece of foam that fit tightly inside the lens openings. I wanted a little extra piece of mind, so I put one of those round cotton face wipes on the lens, then pushed the foam over that. Worked like a charm.

When I first read about Saigas and having to fit mags to the gun, I thought it was going to be a pain in the ass. But they werent at all. I just did my MD20 drums last night. Once you do the first one, you know what to do with the rest of them. It only takes a few minutes. I did the same thing with my stick mags also.

+1 I got mine a couple weeks ago, and I havent put a single shell down the tube My bolt and FCG are with Cobra to work his magic. I also just got in a package from Carolina Shooters with $500 worth of goodies. Even though I haven't shot mine, I've shot a buddies factory Saiga 12 enough to know when I finally got one, I wanted it to be converted.

I can understand the AR remark I'm a diehard AR15 guy. But I picked up my first Saiga 12 last week, and I like the "roughness" of it. I havent shot it yet, but I enjoy tinkering so I dont mind doing some work to get it the way I want it.
