  1. Spring 2011 I picked up a couple in Russia, retail was right at/around $100 ea, unless someone can buy at a bulk discount and import them I think you are stuck at paying $125-150 ea...at least.
  2. The paperwork issue never came up, but since if you were to travel to Russia you would first need an "invitation" in order to receive a visa, that would imply you know folks there, or are traveling in some tourist group. (So you would have someone to do the buying and talking for you). As for the prices, I had a brain fart...didnt find the magwell mags, it was 8 rd molots for Vepr 12, and regular rock and lock 8 rd izmash for saiga 12. izmash were in the$80s and the Molot s were in the $70s [quote name='KevinInNM' timestamp='1308417624' post='657982'] Would they sell them to fore
  3. Well the letter was a bit late, as the trip is over already. As for prices, the $130 kvar was charging is not really too bad, considering they cost right under $100 ea. in a shop in Russia. Gotta have some mark up right? But I wonder how good of a deal they (kvar) got? It was also a bit hard to find them, out of I think 5 stores, only one had the standard 'rock and lock mags, and one had the mag well type of mags. the others didnt have them at all, and the 5 rounders were not much cheaper than they are here...
  4. This post is about saiga mags, not some bullshit idea of mailorder humans. I am married to a Russian, so this shit hits a nerve. how you meet someone is not the issue (my wife and I met in college) yes, some people use website like the above mentioned one. the websites and dating services are real, the concept of mailorder is not. For those interested, it is cheaper to set up for 3 gun then to pay all the filling fees if you get maried to an immigrant. and the process takes years! Lets keep this about S-12 mags please. I'm sure there is someplace else on this forum
  5. I have used simple krylon camo paint from the local wallyworld several times over the years, and have been 100% happy with it. Yes over time it wears off, but over time I get tired of the pattern and re-do the camo anyway. I never used any clearcoat finish, that may fix the wear? don't know. Just clean and prep very well first. And you may want to use something like a 2x4 or a length of pvc pipe as a practice piece for your camo style first. It gives a good idea of how it looks on a weapon, and shows you what not to do (like using a cut templet has never worked for me on anything tha
  6. Just an update of sort...sent a letter to the ATF in April and still no reply. Will update again if/when they do.
  7. The ones in the picture are a mix of the "red head' and "white mushroom" I believe the red heads are known as 'brick head bolets" here now that i did a bit of googling, and the white is known as a king bolet. we wash and flash boil them, then pan fry them w/butter, salt, pepper etc. We cook the chantrelles the same way. they are the best IMO. Hope to find some morels at some point, what do they like to live on/under, certain kind of trees? in the sun or shade? I need some tips.
  8. You are finding mushrooms right now in May? I thought they were only really found in the late summer/fall time frame. the fall is the only time I have ever found them, Never found the morels, just chantrelles, "red heads" and "white mushroom" ...don't know the proper names of the last two. I'm in the north east.
  9. Not that this helps with the function problem, but I found inserting the tip of a butter knife allowed me to see the ports in my gun, using it as a small mirror.
  10. I'm in the process of writing a letter to the ATF, and will inform you all when they inform me. I am just a bit surprised that no one here has tried this or inquired with the ATF before me. Laws seem to often be based on money and taxes...and logic never seems to be used. If its not legal to bring in a few 8 rd mags, but fine to buy 10, 12 or 20 rd drums here.. its not very logical to me. But there is that tax issue, and we all know uncle Sam likes his cut, so I will not be surprised if its a big "NO" answer. who is it that sells them from time to time? Russmilitary? So it must
  11. Thanks for all the thoughts on this subject thus far. You know I didnt even think of the state/mag ban issue...would be flying into Atlanta. (Ga. is good to go as far as I know, and so is my state.) So no worries there? However, this brings up the question, how do high cap mags travel for example to a free state in the north east, from a free state out west, without crossing into NY, or NJ...or do they. (just food for thought, nothing to do with my original question) I personaly am only interested in 8 rd mags for the saiga 12. They can be found in a few shops for much les
  12. This is my concern. i've made several trips to/from russia, and never had US Customs look at my stuff, only once leaving Russia did they look. A surefire flash light was looked at for a few seconds, then given back and that was that. My concern is two fold, one with there being some law issue, and the other with the inspector knowing the value of Izzy 8rd mags and "inventing an issue" just to take it himself. shipping was/is my first choice, but it may be big money. (once had a simple envelop sent, it was close to $20.)
