  1. That is an EXCELLENT point! Keep in mind, a "good shooting" to you, may not be considered a good shooting by the police/prosecuter. If they go after you, they will try and CRUSH you...you will be in for the ride of your life...and that weapon will be presented to the jury. The worse it looks, the worse it is for you. Juries are usually idiots, I mean they couldn't even figure out how to get out of jury duty. fwiw, if I was on ajury and the prosecution brought in a tricked out Saiga w/ all kinds of crap hanging off of it, and a 20rd mag shoved in it....I would be kinda like 'wtf?' too
  2. I had the same issue with the tap snapping off. By the time we got it out, the hole was large and irregular. Neighbor who is a welder was afraid to weld it because he didn't think he could get his mig welder in the hole and do a good job. We wound up using a pop rivet to put it in. So far, it has held admirably for a few hundred rounds. We check it every so often to make sure it's still firmly in place and it is doing well. If the rivet ever fails, the plan is to drill all the way through the receiver and use a longer screw and nut with some loctite. Won't be pretty, but as I don't plan
  3. I've subsequently gotten through to the Gun Shop mentioned in the link. It turns out that they are getting Russian American Arms Saigas, not Arsenal ones, so this could be a bit of profiteering on their part, or on RAA's as they try to get as much as possible for the inventory they brought over before this fall. Whatever the case is, we can expect to see more of this going on probably, so if you want a Saiga and see one in the right price range, I'd go for it, because even if this is just an example of one or more businesses profiteering off panic, it could still lead to an increase in pr
  4. We've all been breathing easy since the ATF study came out and did not ban Saigas, but this news is a bit disturbing. http://www.saysuncle.com/2011/02/03/saiga-update/ Just as a bit of background, back when the first rumors of a ruling came out, I was in Coal Creek and said something about the rumors. They blew the issue off taking a "We'll believe it when we see it" attitude that, in retrospect, was more balanced than the panic that swept others. Interestingly, it is their supplier who has become skiddish, I assume out of fear of losing money on importing inventory that they have tr
  5. None of these are mine, but these pics give you an idea of how it looks (awkward, IMO) and the added length: Awkward looking? Yes, a bit, and yes, it adds length, but my brother used one on a saiga 7.62x39 and I was impressed by how sturdy it is. Just work a bit to fit the shim screws right. I also was impressed that it locks tighter than other folders I have handled, so I'm going to go the same route with my Saiga-12. (The other advantage is that the current models accept a pistol grip on the base of the block, preventing you from having to do the
