  1. Dumb question: The article seems to state that the trajectory of a shotgun slug is fairly flat out to 100 yards. To me, the means that a slug won't rise or fall much up to 100 yards. But it also suggests that it is a mistake to zero your sites at 25 yards. If the trajectory is flat out to 100, why would zeroing at 25 be any different than 50 or 75?
  2. I just updated my article (page 3 is the added content): http://thrumylens.org/featured/my-saiga-12-pistol-grip-conversion-project/3/ The gun is mostly complete, test fired, and I lived to tell the tale.
  3. Yeah. Me too. I have tried the sissy pad without the mercury, but not the other way around. I have been meaning to weigh out a pound of lead and see how much of a difference I can tell between the two, but the last few times I have gone shooting, I have had a freind along who would have been bored by methodical experimentation. I just don't want to drop around $80 on a muzzle device and not see an effect or come up with a placebo effect to justify my purchase. Especially since my choke adapter does make an observable improvement. Well, if I had to be completely honest, one reason fo
  4. No tests yet. If I was really smart, I would have incorporated each individual recoil reducing upgrade individually before combining them so I could gauge the relative effectiveness of each one.
  5. Good evening! I've been working on a pistol grip conversion on my Saiga 12 shotgun, and did an article on my experience. Hopefully I can inspire someone equally as inept as I am to step outside of their comfort zone and do the work themselves. I'm the lowest common denominator folks...truly if I can do it, anyone can. My Saiga 12 Pistol Grip Conversion Project | ThruMyLens The project is about 80% complete at this point - look for an update to the article in a few days when the parts I'm waiting on come in.
  6. Also - am I correct that the Endine tube would require some cutting on my S12 where the Mako model is easier to install?
  7. Question: Would the Enidine Shot Shock be compatible with the Mako recoil reducing stock? The Mako recoil reducing tube which goes with the stock is out of stock everywhere I've checked. This Enidine model is considerably more, but I'd like to finish my gun, and it looks to be even better than the Mako tube. I assume it is compatible with the Mako stock (standard M4) but thought I'd check.
  8. Hey guys, I need some help selecting a stock for my Saiga 12. My end goal is to have the most comfortable, lowest recoil shooting gun I can get. I'm a shorter guy at 5'8" tall. I had initially thought I'd get the Tromix stock with limbsaver recoil pad, and the CSS cheek rest/pad. But it's not adjustable - I really like the adjustable stock on my AR-15. Is there an adjustable stock which will be just as or more comfortable than the Tromix?
  9. John, Yes, I normally go to Middletown. It's about 20 minutes from me. I could not find the Miamisburg Club. Where is it? How long is its rifle range? I hear good things about Middle town, but have never been. The Miamisburg Club (here's a link) has 50 & 100 yard rifle ranges, and one that goes out to 200 yards. I'll let you know Mitch if I want to modify my 335i.
  10. Same Here,....small world I wonder how many guns go through their QC in an average day?? Great write up sir! Thanks! I imagine production happens in batches, which results in a sizable number of completed guns going through QC and then shipping out at the same time.
  11. Thanks - it's a 2011 335i. Hi Mitch! That is close! Where do you shoot? Middletown maybe? I shoot at the Miamisburg Sportsmen's Club.
  12. Not at all - I've taken several firearms training courses, but nothing yet with a shotgun.
  13. Thanks! I will most definitely continue as the conversion work is completed.
  14. Thanks to everyone in the forum for all their help! Thought I'd share some photos and video footage of my using the gun: My New Saiga 12 Semi-Automatic Shotgun! | ThruMyLens
  15. Hey guys - I know the Federal value packs with 12 gauge buckshot are a great deal, but at my range, I need to shoot slugs. What's the best deals out there on 12 gauge slug rounds?
  16. OK - that makes perfect sense. Thanks!
  17. Line it up with the locking pin--yes, the one that is in the gun already. If that pin doesn't pop up give it a good squirt of CLP or FP10 as a lubricant to assure function. The pin will get pushed down and act as a detent ala an 870 magazine cap. You should feel it clicking at each setting as you get it near the bottom. The pin is what you use to align the setting marks. Once you are tightened down, back it out to the "-" sign. Mine happened to fall on a "-" so I had to back it out to the other "-" to be properly set. Fire first shot and open up one click till proper cycling for
  18. OK - I got the original plug out and the V-Plug in. But I'm not clear on the positioning. The video said that you tighten it down, then back out the plug until the minus sign is lined up. Lined up with what? The little pin that you had to push down on the other plug? Also, does the pin not pop up anymore with the V-Plug? Mine doesn't.
  19. OK, just got a V-Plug. Found a vid on YouTube for installing the V-Plug, but it doesn't specifically state how to remove the existing plug. ??? Sorry for the dumb question - I'm somewhat mechanically challenged.
  20. Thanks much - Is that slug or buckshot? What setting on the V plug works best with that? I only had a few fte's when I got my saiga 12. Now its so far flawless with the factory 5rd mag. can even shoot from the hip with fed bulk with no issues. And mine is unconverted. If you have a scheels in your area they have federal tru-ball slugs for $2 after a $2/box(limit 5 boxes)rebate. We must not have that store here in OH since I've not heard of it.
  21. OK, I'd like to shoot my Saiga 12 A LOT. What's the best ammo for the money to run through the Saiga 12? I did order the five position V plug for the gun.
  22. Did you get it from silver bullet? I sure did!
  23. I purchased my S12 yesterday and have similar questions. So far, I have ordered a US made 10 round mag and a blackjack buffer. Here's a photo of my new rifle. I bought it for $729 at a store in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I guess I paid maybe $100 more than the best online prices but it was nice to buy f2f and shoot it at their range. Right now I'd like to get a pistol grip, recoil reducing stock, and rail to mount a red dot. Maybe a JTE COMPETITION BRAKE? I guess I should replace the gas adjustment plug? I'm new I'm new to the Saiga/AK world so suggestions are welcome as to
