  1. 1.) Depends on the SKS. Make, model, whatever, they're all different because they all have different stories behind them, being mostly surplus. 2.) Depends on the barrel condition of the Yugo M70 and how well it was built. 3.) It is easier to install a new US made Yugo M70 barrel on a Yugo M70. You won't find many Saiga X39 barrels laying around. 4.) Usually by filing the magazine well and/or the magazine catch and/or installing a feed ramp in the front trunion. I really don't know that much about VEPRs though, at least in that regard. Sometimes you don't get the answers you're looki
  2. I'm not exactly parading at the moment. Your points are right, which is why I was saying if anyone wanted hi-caps they will have to buy the rifles first, instead of saying they'll buy the rifles when hi-caps come out. It would be a few months before I could even begin such a project anyway. I'm just putting the message out that I'll think seriously about it IF people show enough interest in the rifle first. It's a good rifle no matter what size mag it has. On 922R compliance, the S-100 has 14 parts, and a mag would take care of 3. A regular piston should work for the lowest cost co
  3. There is only one other forum that restricted the ability of people to edit their own posts, and shortly thereafter they lost participation and many other forums got new members. That forum has since gone back to its old policies on that and other things. The problems with the prohibition are worse than the ones without. Posting and enforcing clear forum rules will do more to solve the problems. Removing the editing feature is taking away a simple, common, and useful feature that everyone else offers. When mistakes can't be fixed and for-sale ads can't be updated without bumping, th
  4. I was through that area not all that long ago. If I had known they were full of them I'd have picked one up. I ended up paying $405 + shipping + transfer.
  5. I think he understands what he did, just not what he was doing at the time. He used words associated with the gun banning agenda to describe what he would have advocated as game regulations, which are completely separate, having nothing to do with private ownership. I applaud him for what he is doing now - Going after those people who are quoting him out of context and setting the record straight. I'd be interested to see how he's ultimately viewed by history.
  6. A small transaction, but SEG21 took his end seriously and made everything on my end as easy as possible. Great communication and very polite and reasonable. I'm not sure if he has many posts, but if anyone has the opportunity to deal with him, you can do so with confidence.
  7. As of April 1st, time to respond to communications will be a bit longer due to spending more time working on stock sets for current orders, as well as religious holidays. Your communications are most welcome, though your patience is requested.
  8. The question is whether it's easier to sell 100 30-06 mags at $100 each or 3000 S-308 or S-12 mags at $50 each.
  9. I think a lot of people know what it would take to make mags, and know how hard it is, so they don't do it. Considering that AGP and FBMG invested in polymer, they certainly had to anticipate a major volume. My volume would obviously be nothing compared to theirs. That tilts the economics towards other manufacturing methods, ones that don't cost as much to tool for. Like machining, which is very expensive per unit time but has a comparatively low equipment cost. The downside is that you could be dropping as much as $100 on each mag. Here are scenarios, with numbers pulled out
  10. I was planning to mail a check, but last time there was an option to do that that would list my subscription as "pending" and gave me something resembling a receipt. Any idea where that went?
  11. A catalog is in the works. Past products that don't go into the catalog are ones I'm not inclined to make again, but many can be found in the Custom Furniture II thread.
  12. --> QUOTE(G O B @ Mar 28 2007, 07:52 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> 1 I would bet you can, 2. Should you? HELL no. Any reason for the NO other than a sense of humor?
  13. Armsofamerica has had them featured for some time at $399. 20rds is the magic number for two reasons. First, it equals one box of ammo. If you're shooting US made commercial ammo, that might be a scary concept. Second, it is about the optimum size for comfort and aesthetics. My own preference is a mag that reaches down roughly as far as the grip. On something with the 308 and 30-06 rim, that's about 20rds. 30rds is just too big for my tastes in a full power rifle. Not that I would mind the ability, but the size of the mag and weight of the loaded gun would be pushing it, especial
  14. My contribution's ready when the forum is, and I'd be happy to test the system whenever it's time.
  15. I went to contribute and two menus showed limited options, none including what I wanted to do. The first listed my current subscription to the website maintenance and development, and below it were options for larger contributions on increments of $100 including business memberships. My intention was to contribute an amount less than $100, proportional to my furniture sales through this forum for the latter half of 2006. I selected the $100 option to see if that would lead anywhere. It then went to a screen to select payment method. The only method available was Paypal, which I d
  16. It's sane, thoughtful, and indicated an awareness of the post you were replying to. Absolutely!
  17. Recap (aka "whereby", "since", or "considering"): The Saiga 30-06 is here. And it's living up to the reputation of Saigas for impeccable reliability and practical accuracy. It shoots reliably with everything from surplus to 220gr Remington loads. The only kind I haven't tried is Remington reduced recoil loads. This model arrived 4 years after EAA promised it would be here. Expectations of another Saiga being invented and imported any time soon are unrealistic. By that time you will have had the opportunity to save for and then buy several guns. For those who don't like the fac
  18. Here's how it'll work - Folks are as welcome as ever to contact me, but I will be reserving less time for quotes and proposals. My PM box will fill up, so please E-mail me to my screenname at hotmail. Be sure to mention that you are from the Saiga forum so that I can give this forum credit for us being in touch. The forum mailer usually works if you want to use that method. 1.) Expect me to take longer to reply. As long as I can have your patience though, you can have my attention. 2.) If you are willing to accept a completely unknown turnaround time, which may be delayed by cert
  19. Everything I know suggests it would be the same. Swapping furniture with your WASR would be a surefire way to tell, but the eye should tell well enough. Put it this way, anything missed by the eye can be fixed with a file or pocketknife.
  20. April 1st I'm holding off new orders until standing ones make enough progress. Whatever is in by then I will organize and do in the most efficient fashion, while final completion will still be in sequence as much as possible.
  21. I can do a Tabuk style set for an AES-10, assuming its furniture is standard AKM pattern. If not, we'd just need to interact a little bit more. Ironwood's Tabuk furniture is for the Yugo AKs, not the AKMs. I can offer hardwood choices from authentic to superior to economical. Choice is yours. Since it would be custom made to order, any combination of styles would be fine.
  22. I would model it to fit my new RAA Saiga-12 unless other directions were given. Currently quotable price would be $65 shipped. If it becomes more of a pain that I suspect I'll have to go higher, but I'll honor that price for those who want to step up to order at this time. Note that the price reflects paying fair prices for the handguards that are then machined. The total price is about what you would pay for a handguard plus a professional venting job by Cobra or Tromix.
