  1. I was one of them that started playing with the 1911 springs to replace the forward Saiga spring...this is what I am doin NOW... I got a multi-pack of various weight springs from Wolff (I think 7-22lbs.) I got 200rds. of #8 low brass cheap Federal from Wal-Mart and I dipped into my "Oh crap!" Federal L.E. 00 3" buck. The goal was to have the gas regulator in the normal setting and swap the springs out as needed for cheap practice and full house loads. after playing around with it I ended up with a 28lbs. spring for the 3" 00 buck and a 18lbs. for the light stuff. I upped the wei
  2. Hey guys. What I did was bought a second recoil spring/rod and took off the LARGE front spring from the extra recoil assymbly. I replaced it with a 9lbs. 1911 recoil spring and left the gas setting on the wide open "Full power" setting. When I shoot the cheap stuff I just swap my factory recoil assymbly out for the light weight "1911 spring" assymbly, don't change the gas system and roll on. IMPORTANT!!! Because the gas system is wide open all the time I put a 20lbs. 1911 spring on the "factory" recoil assymbly to absorb the force. I got the idea from one of the 3-gun threads here but
  3. THANKS sKott i THINK YOU MIGHT HAVE BEEN THE ONE I SAW BEFORE THAT GOT ME THINKING. FOR INFO: I made contact with Rogard(sp) and they quoted me $85 for the bolt carrier, piston rod and bolt to be NP3 coated, the turn around would be 3 weeks. I'm going to try Elite and see if I can get a faster turn around. I want to Dura-coat black the portion of the carrier seen through the ejection port when bolt is forward just to look more not sure if the Dura-coat will stick though...and blasting chrome? I don't know... NP3 will take and hold the Dura-coat. My toys are stored long term often and th
  4. Thanks Cobra...I found some guys with S-20's on the site were talking about 16# being factory equiz and going to 12# I believe. I think you are right though, it's running fine so why mess with it? It's got 750rds through it now, I'll put more through when I get back, it's addictive though and before I know it my yard looks like a skeet range with all the 12ga. shells! Later.
  5. Hello all, I'm a new Saiga owner (Tony did a great job for me and went above and beyond as I ordered from Iraq) I have put around 500rds through it of Estate #4 bird, and 250rds. Federal OO full power loads. It cycles both loads on both gas settings like butter (I only did 10rds of Fed on possition #2 as not to beat it up). I have a few questions if anyone has input: 1) I read on one of the threads (can't find it now) that guys were using 1911 recoil springs in place of the large Saiga spring to tweek reliability and recoil with differnt loads. Q: "What is the factory large spring equ
