Not much happens in the S-20 section, so here's some pics...

Here are some before pics of my buddy Craig's S-20.

All the usual guts - chopped & hacked mag & ported out to 3X 0.094"

The upper HG retainers are welded on to the tube, but the tube is not quick detachable. To remove the furniture, you have to tap the gas block off. Same with the lower retainer as well.

It's been threaded for Winchokes by our buddy at the Gun Barn. ($70)

That thing looks good! What's the barrel length? It appears long enough, was it giving y'all cycling issues or did you just port it to pre-emptively address any such problems down the road? 11rnd magazine, or bigger? Doing any kind of irons or leaving it optic only?

It's a 19" barrel. It had lot's of bad bad cycling problems. 30 - 50% failure  ! After polishing the hammer & porting, she runs 100%. It was supposed to have Rem Chokes, but for some reason it has Win Chokes. Dumbass! It ended up working out O.K. because he has a 20g Winchester Auto to share with.

I think that's a 12 10 rounder he made - not sure. One of 'em we trimmed the follower to squeeze another round.

Sights - yes it will have irons on it eventually. The rear one is re-done, but the front needs to be done.

We got rid of all the plastic on it now - I will add the after pics tomorrow evening. It's sporting some wood now!

Here's some during pics - plum/wine in color. Needs one last coat of poly & paint yet. Still tacky so we didn't want to assemble completely. It was too late to shoot photos in sunlight.

Yugo RSB - thanks to TheGunHustler!

RPK stock set - thanks to me!

We made a lower HG retainer out of 1 1/2" exhaust pipe. We should be done this weekend - sans FSB/brake. He has to decide on that one yet. He'll be using his reddot for turkey season coming up.

Same question as in the S12 section...

do you notice less kick with the wood? do you think the gun itself is much heavier with wood (ie: does the increased weight reduce recoil, or is it an intrinsic property of the material)?

Thanks, and nice work!

There is a big weight difference with this one -vs- my wood one. I can possibly weigh them and see the difference, but this RPK set is about 2x as heavy as the AKM ones...Should be a noticable difference over synthetic.

This one should be a nice shooter :killer::killer: After seeing the stain on it, I kind of regret selling it to him now!

I have NEVER been fond of the SAW PG on ANYTHING Saiga... but other than that... BEAUTIFUL Dinzag, absolutely Beautiful!!!

Stick one of BRG3's PG's on there, after you stain it to match... and it will be breathtaking!!!!!

You certainly do some VERY fine work!!!!

Thanks for the compliments - I will pass them along!

Yeah yeah, I told him to take some of the $40 he saved on the RPK retainer and spring for one. He wants to make one himself...after all, $20 is 2 liters of Trader Vic's! :lolol:

He has 2 Winchester choke tubes in there right now, so it does serve a purpose. But when going all out on a furniture set, it might as well be a 4 piece. ;)

Here's some updated pics. The FSB is done including the indexing pin. It's an AKM one welded to a piece of 3/4" black pipe and welded on the gun. The brake is made of the same, and is welded to a modified Win-Choke. He plans on having a different brake for each choke tube.

Where can I get a good front iron sight/flash hider like the one shown? Does it have to be welded onto a choke, or can it be permenantly tacked onto the barrell? Pro/con? Legal implications?

I'm new to a lot of this, but very very excited about customizing my S-20.

Also, are there any must have tools (other than std. wrenches and toolbox tools) that I should aquire for home smithing/modding?

Still having trouble posting pics.

The total filespace required to upload all the attached files is greater than your per post or global limit. Please reduce the number of attachments or the size of the attachments.

Cannot figure it out.

That one was hand made. Due to the added height of the RSB mod, a custom FSB had to be made. As for the factory FSB/Brakes, rusmilitary & gunbroker has some. You can have Tony Rumore make up a custom one as well. I have some I will post pics soon that Tony did & I welded the raised sight to. (S-12 & S-20)

Tools - Dremel! Maybe a brass drift/punch for GB/FSB work.

nyclu3 - thanks man! Bummer about the pics - I want to see your baby! :smoke:
