greatmoose 4
Need some advice. I'm installing a Romanian AK gas tube on my 308, and had to slightly trim the front of the tube to get it to fit. No big deal. The issue I'm having is the gastube lever will not move down. It's catching on the slanted face of the back of the tube. My question is, should I trim the slanted face down, or should I trim the nub that hangs below the back of the tube (the part that locks into the RSB), so that the tube sits slightly lower? Does it matter? Thanks a heap!
44rdv4rk 0
i had the same "catch". i ground the slanted face down little by little, testing often, until it fit.. it's still a very snug fit, but i figure snug is good. the main thing is that the gun works, so i'd suggest grinding/filing down the slanted face of the gas tube. edit: it would indeed matter if the tube sat lower, because the gas piston would bind. greatmoose 4
That's what I figured. Thanks!
IndyArms 10,186
I second that... Trim the angular face of the gas tube SLOWLY... a little at a time till it fits...
texlurch 0
Use the original Saiga gas tube as a pattern. If you hold them up together, you will see the difference in the angle. Trim a little at a time until it is a snug fit. Don't lower it at all, the bottom is fine.
Mudsock 0
What are you guys using for a lower retainer?
44rdv4rk 0
What are you guys using for a lower retainer? i butchered up a romy retainer for mine. it's a true pain in the ass to do, since the .308 barrel is so much thicker than the 7.62 barrel.
Mudsock 0
I heard that the RPk type works better. Any comments?
greatmoose 4
The RPK type does work better, IF you can find one. Since I can't get in touch with globaltrades AT ALL, it's a problem.
