It's a concept that runs through the Old and New Testaments, but Paul explains it pretty well in Romans: 1 Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. 4 For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. 5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience. Unfortunately, too many Christians have made the US government their god. They look to the state to solve the issues of morality and evil in the world. The Republicans use this to make the government bigger and more intrusive. Christians somehow got the idea that patriotism is a good thing. Our citizenship is in heaven. All governments are of men and therefore evil to varying degrees. Only when Christ returns will the earth be governed according to God's will by it's true king. Christianity is freedom. Freedom from the penalty of sin. Freedom to worship God in truth. The current government is anything but Freedom. The government steals over 3/4 your income in taxes. If you don't own your own labor, you are a slave. They dictate new and more restrictive laws contrary to the constitution every single day. God does not approve of the corrupt nature of our bought and paid for politicians. Do you seriously think this is a government God approves of? Thanks! i agree, NOT to say this isn't an important topic, it's VERY important, but i've yet to see any examples of 922r run-ins in this thread. anyways, so none of us know of any?
