mickporno 0
is there a table somewhere that gauges choke measurements?...for example, i have a full choke saiga12, i measure the inside diameter of the muzzle end of the barrel and it's 0.xyz inches.....then i cut off about 4 inches of the barrel and measure it again and it's 0.abc inches.....is there a standard measurement for 12 gauge chokes and where would i find these measurements so as to acertain where i am with my new choke....or possibly chokeless barrel?..... G O B 3,516
Mickporno- It doesn't quite work that way. S-12 is 1mm restriction(extra full). That means that about the last 2' of barell are restricted 1mm. There is a transition of maybe 3/4 " before that. The rest of the bore is parallel. The 22" barell is really 22 3/4" if you cut it to 19" it will have no choke. Hope this helps. G O B

kmoore 3
I posted this before, but I'm too lazy to find it. Choke is really a measure of pattern performance. It is defined by percentage of pellets in a ring at a defined distance. That requires a lot of work, and you can guess by quoting the measurement of the choke tube/bbl end diameter. Guys that are more into this (sporting clays shooters, trappers just want a lot, skeeters just want a little heheheh) spend a lot of time with a patterning board checking out choke tube/shell combinations. And many have reported that you can affect your choke just by changing shell brands/types.
mickporno 0
ok first of all...."you're all wrong"...well maybe not completely but i just liked the sound of it!!!.... choke is based on a constriction of the muzzle in thousandths of an inch based against the cylinder bore measurement which in the case of a .12 gauge is .729 inches....different manufacturers use slightly different measurements to determine their chokes but they vary only by .001 of an inch or so.....the original choke on the saiga was truly a "super" full choke as it was tighter than any of the other "full" chokes on the various charts that i found...my barrel originally measured 22 7/8 inches from the breech face....it has been cut to 18 1/2 inches from the breech face for a total of 4 3/8 inches removed and i have a muzzle I.D. measurement of .720 inches which gives me an improved cylinder choke... by the way most skeeters and trappers don't speak of chokes in terms like "full" ,"modified" , "improved cylinder" etc....they might say something like "i'm using a .005 choke this morning, but i may change over to a .015 later"..... tomme boy thanx for the chart...it falls right in line with some of the other info i had already found..... kmoore 3
the really good ones say I'm using a lot, medium or little heh. Lest I be called "all wrong" I searched to find this post. http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showto...t=0entry10278 References the sight that I used to read a lot. Shotgunreport.com. Lot's of general shotty info, but mostly geared towards clays. Having said all of that, it is a lot easier/good enough to label a choke or bbl as being cyl, imp cyl, mod, etc BTW Micky, I left you a voice mail today. Let me know if you want add anything to my order.
