Shopping List for a Basic Conversion

Recommended Posts

Hello guys,

Given that Tony is up to his eyeballs in work, and I am not up to my eyeballs in money to pay for a nice conversion like that, I'm considering doing a conversion myself on my Saiga 12. Here is what I would like to do with it:

New trigger group

Folding Ace-style stock - internal hidden block required, I don't want the external block

SAW style grip

10-rd mag

Compliance issues aside (I'll cross that bridge when I get to it), what parts would I need to basically do the above? Giving it a folding stock and pistol grip with the internal block? I added the trigger group because that is one of the usual conversion changes.

I don't know a lot about this, but the above kind of illustrates what my end goal is...pistol grip and folding stock, without the external block. I'm leaving other stuff (like sights, muzzle breaks, etc) alone for now, I can do that stuff later. But can anyone give me something akin to a shopping list? Ie., what part numbers are required to do this work, and if you know where to find them, that would be great info as well.

Many thanks for any help you can offer, cheers!

If you use the above items in your conversion, you will have no 922r issues (provided you buy USA made parts for the conversion).

Excellent, good to know!

I guess then, my question becomes what exactly should I purchase for a grip and folding stock. blackjackbuffers.com has a Saiga compatible one listed but it uses an external block. They have a ton of AK ones, some for milled, or stamped receivers, and some listed as "internal". Is that what I might need?

Thanks again, I'm getting excited about maybe doing this.

If you use the internal block, it requires you to cut the external portion of your buttstock attachment tang.

The 'saiga specific' pg/buttstock allows you to use your saiga with no mods. It directly replaces the existing buttstock. You'd then need to pick up 3 more US parts somewhere along the way.

I think doing a full conversion -as you've listed above- is an easier way to reach 922r nirvana

You can buy a folding stock "kit" from Blackjack, prob the best way to go. Need to pick a size too! I suggest small but thats up to you.

Also to put it all back to gether you need something to hold the pins in. I suggest you spend the extra $15 and get a shepards crook. Getting the trigger group & bolt hold open can be a witch, this helps....

Thanks...so, if I want to do the conversion doing the internal block (with the modifications necessary) which one of these two would be recommended? They are designed for AKs, I believe:

ACE Folding Stock Kit M/Milled Internal

http://www.blackjackbuffers.com/index.php?...d0f5248ba215e3d

ACE Folding Stock Kit M/Stamped Internal

http://www.blackjackbuffers.com/index.php?...d0f5248ba215e3d

Difference is for stamped/milled receivers. I don't know much about AK style guns yet (the Saiga is my first), which one is what I need, if either?

The Saigas are stamped receivers.

So hows aboot the following?

ACE Folding Stock Kit M/Stamped Internal $151.71

http://www.blackjackbuffers.com/index.php?...d0f5248ba215e3d

FAL style pistol grip for the AK $22.49

http://www.blackjackbuffers.com/index.php?...d0f5248ba215e3d

AK-47 Shepherd's Crook Replacement $17.95

http://www.blackjackbuffers.com/index.php?...d0f5248ba215e3d

Single Hook FCG for the AK-47 $33.95

http://www.blackjackbuffers.com/index.php?...d0f5248ba215e3d

That puts me at $226 bucks already, without even the magazine. With Tony apparently offering all this AND refinishing for not too much (150) more, is it worth it to do this on your own? Or should I just save my money and wait?
