Poly-Choke

Recommended Posts

Just received my Poly-Choke and installed. Before installing measured the barrel bore and measured .721". With the Poly-Choke installed the measured settings are: SLUG .724", IMP CYL .718", MOD .709", IMP MOD .706", FULL .701", X FULL .697". Going by charts a full choke should have a difference of .035" from cylinder to full choke. Using my measurements; the cylinder is .721" the full choke is .701" giving a difference of .020" or a difference of 42.8% from the .035". But I really won't know the performance of the Poly-Choke until I pattern test the loads I intend to shoot, and I also have to keep in mind that not all loads will have the same performance. I want to know is the Poly-Choke the right way to go, and the only way to find out is try it. If it works then I need to test pattern my intended loads to find the right choke setting, and load combination for shot performance. Has anybody test patterned their Poly-Choke to see if it is giving the performance expected?

I tried mine out yesterday.

I think the "Fingers" are longer and have more influence on loads than a standard choke,.over a wider area (length)

While my test wasn't that scientific,.... YET,... I was shooting up a hill that was covered with tall grasses at about 35, varying to 50 yards,

10 rounds of light target load down the barrel, with the choke screwed down as tight as it would go, I could definately see the grass blow down in a tight pattern, sweet, like the invisible man walking through grass,..

Ok, 10 rounds of the same, same distances, poly wide open, it was a lot harder to see any blow down pattern in the grass, it kinda just moved back and forth, I had to shoot very close to see the same effect.

Later I used the same loads, and choke on full, to cut some poison ivy in half,.. off a couple trees trees down by the river, and later,. removed a bag worm colony from a wild cherry tree.

and then got slugs on paper at 100 yards with the iron sites and choke on the slug setting! Yeah! Great day!
