AlaskanMBR 0
Does the stock S12 front bead sight screw off, or is it riveted or welded? I just picked up a Hi-Viz bead sight that has threaded posts and would hopefully screw in.. Anybody know for sure before? Maybe drilling and threading is in order? Azrial 1,091
Mine was just threaded in, I replaced it with a metric Allen plug when I went to the tower sights.
AlaskanMBR 0
I tried unscrewing it, counterclockwise then clockwise... It's not coming out... Any tips besides soak it in oil for bit?

Mine was very easy to remove! Too easy really, it would have come out on its own with much shooting. But to answer your question, penetrating oil and a good rap or two with a screw drive handle to help it sink would be my first idea. I can not imagine it would take much torque! Good Luck! HillBilly2 9
The newer guns are not threaded. The sight is pressed in and peened. You may have to drill it out. There are several threads giving details you can search for.
Cobra 76 two 2,677
Hillbilly2 is correct. The newer S-12s ('07 and above I think) have a different type of front sight. It has a round base and a kind of spherical topped post. Like this.... The old style "pistol" sights sit farther forward, are raised up on the nub at the tip of the gas block, and have a more flat topped conical shaped post. Notice the flat sides of the base where you can grab it and unscrew it. Here's the one on my '01 factory camo model.
VanKiller 322
If you decide to drill and tap for a new sight, be advised, that pressed in sight will start turning if you just knock off the top and drill thru the existing sight base..................Get everything lined up just right, and drill thru the center, and she will start turning with the tap, bout half way thru..............might surprise you how long an old gunsmith will turn something like that before he realizes he ain't gettin nowhere............. AlaskanMBR 0
Thanks for the help guys! Looks like I have the newer front sight. I may drill & tap or just smooth it down and go for the AK style front sight tower.
