a little help choosing a stock

Recommended Posts

Hey guys i wanna convert my saiga but im not confident enough to move the trigger group so i wanna buy a stock from MAA and just bolt it on, it has to be fixed since i live in jersey. I was looking at the Tromix skeleton stock and the MAA fixed skeleton stock, does anyone have any experience as to which of these is better? also any other stocks you think would be good, remember they need to be fixed, thanks

Converting is only two pins and 3 rivets. You should really reconsider.

Bolt on stocks like the MAA one are simply cosmetic, the rifle still has awkward balance and mediocre, at best, factory trigger. Like many, you will probably be disappointed, and come back and convert later, having wasted money on that stock.

I like the DPH stock myself. But as Klassy said, most are disappointed with the factory setup even with a nice stock hanging off of it. You'd be surprised how easy it is to convert a Saiga. On the plus side, it looks like you wont wast money on the stock, it should bolt right on to an internal receiver block if you decide to convert later. You will have only wasted money on the butt stock hanger receiver block thingy.

Tromix stock looks sick, but the MAA stock is about $25 cheaper and it's made of aluminum instead of hard plastic like the Tromix stock. MAA stock also uses optional AR15 recoil pads. I have the Tromix stock and love it, but I think I'm going to be switching to the MAA eventually. It's all a matter of preference.

I live in NJ and work out of Philly. If you're in that area I can help. My next two weekends are booked up though because my son is in a travel hockey league. I converted my .308 over the winter and I'm glad I did it.

Start by watching this conversion video:

Hah, more jersey guys. In case you're not in south Jersey, I'm in Union County and wouldn't mind giving you a hand with the tools or tutorials or some help. I also have a MAPP gas torch if you wanna solder on muzzle brakes.

The video GunnyR linked is the best one on the 'net IMO

Keep in mind as well, doing a real conversion is not only gonna get you a better rifle, but also gonna run you $60-$70 less than a shortcut stock!

Now, you got a guy up north and a guy down south to help. You have no excuse to not convert now!

This kit is everything you need and NJ legal:

I just got the ACE 7.5in fixed skeleton stock for my factory saiga from MAA last week. Took it to the range today and I love it. The rifle is very balanced and has a good feel with this stock. It is very well made and easy to install. It has the SAW style grip,is aluminum instead of plastic and has a .5in recoil pad. It is available in three different lengths and you can also get it with a 1in recoil pad or ERGO grip if you don't like the SAW. If your looking for a fixed skeleton stock for a factory saiga I highly recommend this one. Also once I ordered it from MAA it was at my house in 3 days which was very fast compared to the company I ordered my forend grip from. Edited by STC16
