ChileRelleno 7,071
he'll be home for Christmas... "Christie cuts sentence in weapons case" http://www.courierpo...in-weapons-case While this is a good start... Don't hold your breath with C. Christie and anything firearm related. This was purely a Politically driven PR move, if it Christie was 2A/pro-gun he'd issued a full pardon, not just commuted the sentence. A full Pardon would've expunged it like it never happened. Christie claims he "supports the second amendment". However...Christie supports strict and aggressive enforcement of the state's current gun laws. Including their assault weapon ban, one gun a month, etc. He is a big supporter of the NJ AW ban, etc. Again... This was purely a politically driven PR move, to not do anything would have killed any chance for a Presidential nomination. If Christie had a choice, Aitkens would stay locked up.
Klassy Kalashnikov 1,393
Chile hit the nail on the head. I'm happy Brian is home, but he was commuted, not pardoned. He's still a convicted felon and will never own a gun or vote again. The conviction still stands and the precedent of it is still on the books for this very same thing to happen to anyone else at any time. Christie is horribly anti-gun, this is just a political move to not derail his hopes at higher office. Edited December 21, 2010 by Classy Kalashnikov
Vicarious_Lee 84
Had a friend once tell me that going to New Jersey was like Global Thermonuclear War: The only way to win is to not play.
