But they did manage to keep heads down. The did manage to injure several people including police. They did manage to maim a few officers as well. They were able to hold off literally most of the LAPD. They carried shat loads of ammo, fully auto weapons, and they had home made body armor.

 

Tactically the LAPD contained them for a time which is what should be done. Once the 2 guys went mobile that is where things escalated. Until they split up they had plenty of ammo and spare weapons. More so than the LAPD whose officers were dry. It is the short sighted politicians AND public's fault the police were not equiped to handle the situation in short order. In effect, they tied the cops hands around their balls and said go forth a protect us but don't hurt the bad guys.

 

For the bad guys, they held off the LAPD, blew the hell out of property and a few people that got lucky not to die. They knew they out gunned the police. They were prepared for a fight. They were off their rockers for sure. However, they engaged in an act that put innocents at risk for nothing more than money, and they had murdered before. They got what was coming to them. Karma is a bitch and it caught up to them.

 

 

They were stupid and greedy yes, and also very angry. They got away with almost 2 mil in cash before their famous shootout. If that was me i would have retired with the money and would have been sitting on a beach somewhere with a lil umbrella

in my drink chasing pussy.

 

I think even if they had gotton away with 50 mil, they would have kept on doing it till they got what they really wanted.. A gun fight with the police.

OK, and so popping both of their slow moving and well exposed melons "in short order" early in the exchange with, say a scoped Remington 700 wouldn't have produced a better outcome as far as less wounded? That was my point. In other words, the simple fact that the police couldn't match fully automatic fire with fully automatic fire is kind irrelevant in my opinion.

Yes, if the proper equipment had been available to the police, the shootout may have well ended a lot earlier, perhaps with less wounded. You have to think it is a miracle more people were not hurt with all the lead flying everywhere. So yes, if the police or even a civilian, armed with a high power rifle was able hit them in either the head or other exposed area, the gunfight could have ended sooner.

 

According some information from Wiki (and taken with a grain of salt), the University of Austin shootings by Charles Whitman, the police were assisted by civilians with high power rifles. The police did not have those types of rifles then, just like North Hollywood. But a different time and a different era.

 

A lot of things could have helped the situation. The police were not prepared, the robbers were prepared to the point of having an insane amount of firepower. And yes, they were spoiling for a fight with the police.
