Front Sight Block

Recommended Posts

I have a Saiga SGL 10 Sporter(7.62x39)that I am converting back to an Ak 47 clone. Looking to replace the front sight block, so that I can install the slant muzzle brake. My question is this: Can I use a standard AK 47 front sight block and just re-thread the barrel to the 14mmx1 LH?

I see on some sights that they sell front sight blocks for Saiga conversions. Then they sell standard AK front sight blocks. Should all be the same, right? Any help would greatly be appreciated!

If memory serves me right, the Saiga's use an AK-74 FSB and GB.

your right, it does have the AK74 FSB on it. I'd like to go ahead and put the slant muzzle brake on the rifle, I cannot do that unless I ~ remove the whole FSB block off OR cut off only the 24mm X 1.5 thread and re-thread the barrel. :cryss:

I have a Saiga 7.62 rifle also and thought about doing the same thing. You could just thread the site-block instead. Dinzag sells threaded site-blocks, but from what I gather from two different gunsmiths, you can't take the stock front site off, unless you cut it. Instead of doing that, I figured I would just thread mine. Besides, depending on what state you reside in, threading a barrel is a felony, unless you make the break permanent. If you thread the site-block, it's not a felony, since it's separate from the barrel. Pretty good idea huh? From what I gather from the smith I talked to, the 3X9 break they had was supposed to be 70% upwards more efficient than any stock AK break. Some food for thought.....

Thanks for the reply one_man_army. I was thinking of cutting it off OR remove the pins and twist it off. I will try to twist it off first, Id like to save the sight if possible. Threading the barrel is a felony in some states? ( I have not heard of that one before) These stupid laws keep surprising me, don,t know why, but they do. They do not make a slant brake that threads on a 24mm X 1.5 RH thread. If they did, it would look pretty bizarre on the rifle. The compensator I have on there now, works well. I just want to change it up, cosmetically.

Dremel is your friend. Just cut it off and put one of these on......

The Arsenal SGL10 comes with the 24mm FSB already installed. He's wanting to revert back to 14x1LH threading.

Plasticman, If you decide to sell the Arsenal 7.62x39 muzzle brake that came on the rifle, let me know.

I did just that, cut the 24mm thread off and cut new 14x1 on the muzzle, which is ok where I live

2nd dibs. I will trade my standard saiga FSB and 14-1 left hand slant brake for your 74 style fsb if you decide and if KC913 doesn't take get it.

superhawk138, that would of been a great swap, however I already ordered the sight and muzzle brake. any other offers would greatly be considered. Any extra saiga mags? hmmmm :super:

Unless they have changed in the last 3 years you can knock it off. I did. There is a pin that fits into a recess in the barrel you have to drift out IIRC. Banged it up so bad I didn't want to put it back on. Rely on my red dot. I am going to change that though. Need iron backups.
