And yes I have proper protection etc. I actually on this machine dont have any issues, thank God. But In general they lag alot at times etc. Long story short, Im wondering how far back model wise I can go to get a good deal? Id like to have an apple desktop or maybe a Mac Book. yakdung 2,926
Stick with Intel based CPU's on the Mac platform. PowerPC platform is a little dated (05) and OS upgrade roll outs have stopped. Yakdung Edited February 7, 2011 by yakdung
MrOneEyedBoh 14
Thanks. Someone has a MacBook. 4.10 or something like that. 850 shipped.
Azrial 1,091
Just switch to Ubuntu Linux, if only as a dual boot and just for use for your Internet browser, you will not be sorry. The Mac is a waste of time and money in my opinion. Linux is free! It is not virus proof, but seriously, it will no longer be a big concern.

Download Ubuntu, burn a disc and say goodbye to viruses, snoopware and wasted resources. It will give your existing computer a new lease on life.

yakdung 2,926
Linux is fine but you have to work backwards. It has always been a platform where you had to determine if the system you wanted to install it had hardware that was compatible. I have run them all. SunOS, Linux, HP-UX, IRIX, Windoz. MacOS is the most stable with less pain and aggravation but is pricey. Now if you really want to get adventurous, create a Hackintosh http://www.hackintosh.com/ Good luck, Yakdung Edited February 7, 2011 by yakdung
MrOneEyedBoh 14
I was messing with linux for a bit, but its still kinda a PITA.. and hell yeah mac's are stupid pricey buy they last a damn long time.

ktcm7271 999
I've been running Linux Mint for years, it's the easiest transition away from doze. It does everything except play windows games, but make sure any graphic card you use is Nvidia-they run perfectly on Linux. I set up a dual boot on my older pc with Linux Mint and XP for gaming. Azrial 1,091
Right now I am on my CF-29 Toughbook dual-booting Win7 Pro and Backtrack, a distro of Ubuntu Linux. It is only a CF-29N Mk5, 1.6GHz Centrino with 2.25 GB RAM, yet, with Linux it really rocks compaired to Win7.
MrOneEyedBoh 14
I know Linux is supa smooth. But I'm looking for a netbook OS now. I came across jolicloud, this OS looks banging and is also Linux based. Very nice GUI for a netbook.

roachtron 49
It may be an old video but I think I still applies. If you know what your doing on windows you don't ever have a problem that can't be easily fixed. Google is your friend. Maybe its just me but I dont like a computer I can't easily build and upgrade myself. Plus i am a gamer.... Edited February 8, 2011 by roachtron
MrOneEyedBoh 14
I have my current desktop virus and adware and malware free. I can pretty much get rid of anything on a windows machine. I just hate having to run this and that to just stay safe ya know? I want a PC that I can just get on and get off without worrying about what I could have possibly picked up or whatever on "that site". No I don't rock out to porn etc. Its just buggy out there in cyber space. And windows is pretty memory hungry, linux, mac no so much.

The extra cost is well worth it. Good luck. Your field is absolutely dominated by Macs. Shops only have the PCs for running the business the Macs are for designing product. Macs own the advertising & graphic arts world.

David Mark 2,452
There is nothing that can be done on a Mac that can not be done on a PC. The opposite can not be said to be true... This is true, and if I were an accountant or an engineer I would most likely be on a PC. But despite the fact that I am a patriotic American and a firearms enthusiast, I am also a graphic artist, go figure. I started out with an airbrush and then Photoshop came along (Photoshop was written for the mac). The rest is history.

If you're a fan of MacBook series and if you don't have any issue with the budget then, the most common suggestion to go with latest macbook pro m1, also you have the ability to pay more, then I would love to suggest the m1 max chip which has 10 core cpu and 32 Gpu. Here are I have found some good deals, you can check it out https://www.cnet.com/tech/computing/best-macbook-deals/ I hope it will be helpful for you Edited May 30, 2022 by rkric258
