Can "grandfathered" DDs be modded?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

I know the search function sucks here, but I've tried finding the answer to this for a couple days now. Figured someone here might know......

Remember back when they reclassified the Streetsweepers/Strikers and USAS 12s as Destructive Devices? They had a grace period where you could grandfather your shotgun without paying a fee. My question is, once they were DDs, could the owner then cut the barrel back to less than 18", or would that require a new stamp for a SBS?

Thanks

one caveat to this older thread:

let's say you have a grandfathered DD and you wish to cut back the barrel.

you may *not* have this option if your local laws have made this verboten.

so if your state says no SBS, it may matter little that you have a grandfathered

DD if they can show that you created the SBS after the local law was enacted.

so as with anything gun law related action, be careful and consult local law advice
