corbin 621
Hi guys I know the search function sucks here, but I've tried finding the answer to this for a couple days now. Figured someone here might know...... Remember back when they reclassified the Streetsweepers/Strikers and USAS 12s as Destructive Devices? They had a grace period where you could grandfather your shotgun without paying a fee. My question is, once they were DDs, could the owner then cut the barrel back to less than 18", or would that require a new stamp for a SBS? Thanks
kevin.rose0@gmail.com 62
Tony Rumore said that you can shorten the barrel without any further permit in a thread a while ago.
Shandlanos 1,470
You just have to notify the ATF in writing that you're making a change to the permanent configuration of the weapon. No stamp required.

waltermitty 2
one caveat to this older thread: let's say you have a grandfathered DD and you wish to cut back the barrel. you may *not* have this option if your local laws have made this verboten. so if your state says no SBS, it may matter little that you have a grandfathered DD if they can show that you created the SBS after the local law was enacted. so as with anything gun law related action, be careful and consult local law advice Edited April 3, 2011 by waltermitty
